Blood Bank @ MindSay
.... so tonight I hope that I will do just fine....
I'm so disappointed, I got my results from the blood bank. The test I took at home to see what my blood type is was wrong. :( I'm B+. Not AB- like the take home test said. :( Booooooooo! However they told me I would be an excellent canidate for donating platelets, which you can do every three days. My birthday countdown hits a week as of tomorrow, and I will be turning 18. I still don't know what I want to do. I want to have a nice dinner, get dressed up and whatnot.... and I dunno. That's about it.
So what do I get for my birthday?
As I walked past Crawford Gymnasium I noticed signs for an emergency blood drive....
I figured that since I was feeling unable to help myself, I thought why not do something to help someone else? To be honest, I'm not a selfish person, but I'm also not really that self-less......especially when I'm already not in a good mood...but I don't know what made me want to donate today...it was just this thought it my mind to help someone else and just maybe you will feel better...and the result is I actually do feel better...but I can't explain why....it was just something small that actually made me feel worth something...it was kinda nice :)
If I can't help me, the very least I can do is help someone else....
since I'm (AB-) and the universal receiver and rather "wanted' accorded to the blood bank I guess it's nice to feel special for a change.....I also recommend that you all visit this site American Red Cross and help save lives..
trust me on this...it's a great feeling....so please help....
PS> I made this today...:D
I sincerely implore that you see the seriousnes of the situation. Lives are at stake; children, siblings, parents, grand-parents, friends, our fellow Singaporeans and even foreigners. The one bag of blood you donate can save the lives of at least three people. I do not know the maximum but, whether it is one, two, three or more lives, they are all, just as significant, being that we live in a world of connectedness.
Henceforth, if you are willing to be a donor, and before pledging your blood(Yes, I am serious.), please make sure you are able to fullfill the following. You must be at least sixteen years of age(parents consent required for 16 and 17), weigh at least 45kg, eat a well-balanced diet, including lots of fluids(no caffeine) 3-4 hour prior to the donation, no cold, sore throat or flu symptoms. Also, do not take medication during the week of donation. People with some other medical conditions may also not be eligible. Despite so, please help by spreading the word.
To take the pledge, follow this link: http://www.donorweb.org/pledge/ . My readers of another country, if you are compeled to be a donor, check up your area's blood bank location. One person can make a difference.
P.S. Consent forms for sixteen and seventeen-year-olds can be found here: http://www.hsa.gov.sg/docs/parentconsentfinal.pdf
Howdy Howdy all, since Myclette posting African American rodeo/old west figures I will post Black Inventors to offer a balance between outdoors and indoors. First up, Dr. Charles Richard Drew:
Dr. Charles Richard Drew (June 3, 1904 - April 1, 1950) was an American medical doctor and surgeon who started the idea of a blood bank and a system for the long-term preservation of blood plasma (he found that plasma kept longer than whole blood). His ideas revolutionized the medical profession and have saved many, many lives.
Dr. Drew set up and operated the blood plasma bank at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, NY. Drew's project was the model for the Red Cross' system of blood banks, of which he became the first director. Drew resigned his position as director after the US War Department issued a directive stating that blood taken from white donors should not be mixed with blood taken from black donors. Dr. Drew strongly objected, and stated "the blood of individual human beings may differ by blood groupings, but there is absolutely no scientific basis to indicate any difference in human blood from race to race." Dr. Drew also formed Britain's blood bank system.
Dr. Drew died on April 1, 1950, after a car accident in in rural North Carolina. Although there is a legend that he died as a result of being denied a blood transfusion and medical care from a "whites-only" hospital, Dr. Drew got immediate medical attention, in part from the other doctors (his friends) who were in the car accident with him (but were less severely injured). Dr. Drew was admitted to a mixed-race hospital, but died after being treated for massive internal injuries. A U.S. postage stamp was issued in 1981 to honor Dr. Drew.

And now for the poetry...here goes....
We Wear The Mask
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
it hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,-
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtlities.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask.
We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
We wear the mask.--Paul Lawrence Dunbar

... "can you help me unravel my latest mistake, I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season".....
So.. today was all right. Chemistry is boring, US History consisted of notes, Poetry was just discussing Walt Whitman's nakedness, Earth Science was boooooring, Fashion design consisted of pasting, Word and Powerpoint was just some dumb video... and then there was my career internship. >:)
Internship: Today I was put in the lab. First I went with Bob who showed me the blood bank and explained some blood stuff to me. Then I watched him draw blood from some guy who had bad veins. I was then passed off to another chick who showed me microscope stuff, and pietry dish stuff. I saw a gonarreah one, pretty boring, there were other weird things that were cooler. Then I spotted the biohazard container and asked to see what was inside. So she opened it up and it was... a UTERUS and its matching FALLOPIAN TUBES. How crazy? Just in a little baggy with some liquid. It was crazy. If you put your thumb and index fingers into a triangle, it was barely that size. And baby fits in it? Madness.
