bewitched
週末晚上看了部很爛的電影﹣bewitched。

全片我睡了60%.

如果沒有Nicole Kidman,我會看嗎?

如果不是知道他看過,我又會看嗎?

The Best of Self-Referencing Film
Y'know, after I went all-out, deriding Coke for pulling that cheezy new "chilltop" commercial, I figured I'd pretty much used up my capital as far as making fun of the sliding American culture. I mean, if I just keep slamming TV, movies, and whatnot, people will just call me curmudgeonly (is that even a word?), and ignore me out of hand.

Nonetheless, there was yet another example that was just too painful to ignore. So, forgive me, dear reader, if I once more dive into the dumpster of American Ethos.

There was a time when it was considered taboo to refer to yourself in a movie or TV show. Schwartzenneger never made Terminator references in other movies, Stallone never referred to Rocky in his other films. It was considered crass, self-aggrandizing, and low.

I think the MST3K guys said it best when they saw Casablanca playing in a public-access student film, "Wow, never reference a great movie in the middle of your crappy movie."

That rule seems to have totally changed recently. You may remember the movie "Ocean's 12", a lukewarm sequel to the tepid action film "Ocean's 11". In O12, they make reference several times to Julia Roberts' character looking like someone famous. Then, when the team is in real trouble, and needs to create a diversion, they talk her into impersonating the famous person that she was supposed to resemble. That famous person was Julia Roberts!

So you end up with a scene where a starlet is pretending that she's not who she is, while pretending to impersonate herself. Then, she runs into Bruce Willis, and she has to pretend that she doesn't know him. Everybody on screen is laughing at the hilarity of the situation, having a good time, while the audience sits in silence and checks their watches.

At the time, that was the worst example of self-refrencing film I'd ever seen. Oh, I was so young then.

Today, I saw "Bewitched", a movie based on a popular sixties TV show. Now, I'm going to describe this movie to you as well as I can, without trying to make it confusing (despite that it was so self-referencing as to be a total mess).

Will Ferrell plays an actor who has cast himself as Darren in a modern recreation of the old "Bewitched" TV show (so, already they have broken down the self-referencing rule). He casts a random woman in the role because she knows how to twitch her nose convincingly, but here's the thing. . . she's a real witch! Who could have seen that coming.

So, let's look at the self-referencing part of this movie. They're making a movie based on Bewitched. However, the 'real life' witch has a father who looks and acts just like the one on the TV show. She doesn't have a mother, but Shirley MacLaine plays Endora on the TV show. So, of course she's not the 'real' Endora. Nonetheless, she is a real witch! And the girl has an Aunt Clara who, as they all point out, looks and acts just like the one on the TV show.

But it gets better. When Will Ferrell gets to the point where he needs a heart-to-heart with a father figure, Uncle Arthur shows up to help him out!

So, with all the convoluted self-referencing going on, I just look at Arthur and wonder, "So, is this the 'real' Arthur, or a guy from the girl's family that just happens to look, act, and be called Uncle Arthur. Or is he some figment of Will Ferrell's imagination?"

God, it was so bad, I was wanting it to end within the first ten minutes. They tried to make Will Ferrell look like a romantic lead! "Anchorman" was more romantic than this piece of crap.

I . . . I need to lie down now. Take a little break. Gotta watch a little Godfather, or Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, or Jerry McGuire. I just have to know that there are still good writers left in the world.

Funn Times

Came home from Jersey obviously. Had tons of parties to go to. First was on Saturday, kind of a family reunion. I got to see my cousin whom I haven`t seen in the longest time due to circumstances. We invited them all to our pool party next week so hopefully we`ll see them again soon. Sunday I went to see Bewitched with my sister, BeaneTina, Soko, && April. Sweet movie.... go see it if you get the chance. Raced a guy home on the highway dropped off Beane, Soko, && Tina then headed home. Then my dad && I went to pick up my mom at a party she was at && we watched fireworks. Yesterday was spent at thee lovely April`s house. We had so much fun. We walked to Burger King && I wasted all my money on shit I didn`t need. Then when we were walking to the park Ashley almost got hit by a car and instead of getting out of the road she like jumps up && screams.... the funniest shit. Then we went to the park for a few && walked back home. Hung out there for a little.... hung out outside && Ashley goes to sit on my chair with me && one of the legs folds && I was in a skirt.... I was so scared I was going to flash everyone! Then we rode bikes back to the park just to sit there because we didn`t want to go near the other people there. When we got back Zack wanted to light off fireworks so we watched a few of his then went to the trailor park and watched them there && we climbed up on the roof && watched the fireworks from the roof. We were right in town so it sounded like a war zone it was crazy!

Kaci is supposed to be coming over on Friday, we`re going to do chinese food && a movie again.... can`t wait. Fun times always with Kaci. April is coming over Friday too && on Saturday we`re going to Six Flag, great weekend coming up!

(no subject)
I went to see Bewitched tonight.
It wasn't that good, but it was cute.

The new movie theatre is cool.
It's pretty and they have comfy seats.
The bathrooms are really loud.
They have some powerful hand-dryers.

Hank the Herrin was in my backyard today.
It was cool to watch him.
Nature amuses me.

I want a pool in my backyard.
My dad said no.
Sad day.

I have nothing to do tonight.
I think I'll fold my clothes.
Maybe clean my room.

Kay.
I have nothing else to say.
The End.

Bewitched

Whoo!  I went w/ my friend to see Bewitched today.  I loved it!!!   Kristin Chenoweth wasn't in it enough, but she was hilar!  I need to see it again because I missed a minute going to the bathroom.
