Bank Of America @ MindSay
| I called Bank of America to request a credit line increase. They asked me to enroll in the Credit Protection Plus program and I declined. But today they sent me this letter congratulating me on enrolling and explaining the program fees. |
So, completely unrelated to the offer, I decided that I would request a credit line increase. I grabbed the envelope and called the 800 number on it. The nice lady asked me if I'd like to enroll in the Credit Protection Plus program, I kindly said no, but I'd like to request a credit line increase. She said she'd be more then happy to help. Five minutes later, I had been approved for an increase, and she wished me good day.
Today I received a letter - "Congratulations and thank you for enrolling in Credit Protection Plus."
GRRRRR.
I'm guessing my fatal mistake was to call the 800 number that came with the offer -- but in NO WAY does that give them permission to enroll me in the program.
The worst part is that this has happened to other Bank of America customers. This person is just as angry as I am. When she called in, they told her "I see that you were just enrolled last week. You should read through the benefits before deciding." Ugh. She clearly DECLINED the offer when she called up initially, then they argued with her when she wanted to cancel.
From another source, consumeraffairs.com:
"I received in the mail today (2/19/08) from Bank of America, a welcome package for the Credit Protection Plus Program linked to my Bank of America credit card. I never requested to be part of such a program, and after seeing that I would be charged monthly, 95 cents per $100 of my balance, I definitely wanted to end participation in this program and figure out why I had been automatically signed up for such a program without my consent. I called the program phone line: 1.888.668.6938. A representative told me that on 2/11/08, I had spoken to a representative about the program and opted into the program, thus I was receiving the welcome package and monthly charges would start soon."Here is another one:
There is no way I signed up for Credit Protection Plus. After digging further, Bank of America uses a third party company called CIC which administers the plan. I was charged two big fees before realizing they fraudulantly enrolled me in the plan and the last charge pushed me over my credit limit which alerted the credit bureaus that I am over the limit. As of now, for me, they told me the department that handles "those issues" is closed right now. I was unable to leave a message for them, and they don't have e-mail ("sorry, we don't have that technology" - lol). Funny that the department that enrolls you in the program seems to be open 24/7, though.
UPDATE: I've created a Credit Protection Plus Fraud Resource Wiki at PBwiki. If you've been victimized by BoA, add yourself to the list and lets get organized.
Got up around 1130 am. Got dressed, and left my house.
I went to Napa to get stuff to wash, wax, and polish my car. Since I was out of everything. I got the new Dupont line, with Teflon. Cool.
I then came home and washed my car. I finally finished washing my car around 330 PM.
The guy my dad is getting a home improvement loan from showed up today. He said that the front step on our house needs to be fixed before the loan can be approved. Only because the house appraiser said it was a "safety hazard".
So now if my father doesn't have enough "extra" money he is gonna have to borrow money from me. Gee, what the fuck am I, a bank. Only cause he's to lazy to do it himself. We'll see how it goes.
What's my take on everything. Simply this. My father needs a loan like guys need earrings. Anyway, if you got questions, feel free to ask. Also, I'll keep the blog updated on what's go'n on with me. Now that I am a bank.
Anything else going on? Nothing at all. It's back to a regular day for me. Right now I am watching TV. Shows such as : it takes a thief, dirty jobs, ECW , Miami ink, and the local news.
Plans for the rest of the night? Anyone wanna do anything? Cause I have no plans other then watching TV, and playing around online. LOL
What's on my mind, that I haven't mentioned? Nothing really. I am glad my car is clean. Inside and out. I just shaved my .... , yup, I keep that look' good, just like the rest of me. lmao
Anything else I need to include? Nope, nothing at all. Seriously, there's nothing going on around here, right now. So, drop me a line, IM, or anything. If your wanna chat.

I think it has been about 2 years since Bank of America acquired Fleet, give or take a few months. The results support my theory that the best job in the world is working in IT at a non-tech company. Why? Because the non-tech people that are 70 years old (i.e. - bank executives) have no clue what you're talking about and you can throw out words like "migration" and "integration" and magically make tasks that should take hours take weeks, months, or even years.
Today I walked into Bank of America needing to deposit a fairly large amount of money. Utter confusion breaks out when I tell them my account number and it isn't the same number of digits as a Bank of America account number. I have had this same exact thing happen every time I've deposited money at a Bank of America for the last year (for the first year of the merger, you couldn't even deposit money at BoA, although they could still charge you account maintenance fees and so forth). Finally I verified a bunch of information, filled out another change of address form, and got my receipt for my deposit. I come home tonight to find that the money is not yet posted to my account. While I realize sometimes this takes a day or two, I am slightly concerned that my online account doesn't have any "pending" deposits at least.
This on top of a bill for an EXPIRED Fleet Credit Card that is past due. I used it ONCE for $9.95, and I now owe $65 in late fees and other penalties, and probably hurt my credit score in the process. Turns out the problem was that bill was going to an old address, which is funny because even though I've moved 3 times in the last year, the FIRST thing I've done each time I move is update my address using Fleet's online banking. Apparently, that form isn't actually linked to anything, and they will continue to send my mail to an address they have on a paper ledger that was setup back in 1975 or whenever my mom first opened a Fleet account.
Anyways I'm sure you could care less about my woes at the bank. The main lesson I would like to leave you with is that if you're good with technology but quite lazy and want good job security and awesome hours, I highly advise the banking industry.
