Bachelor @ MindSay
It will be time to go to bed in a few hours, and tomorrow a new work week will begin. But for now, I'm just basking in the afterglow of a nice weekend. I worked my ass off yesterday cleaning the house and getting all the weekend chores taken care of. My parents came by for a visit this morning to help me plant some lilac bushes in the backyard to jazz up the non-existant landscaping at my house.
I didn't have a shovel or a spade so we all piled into the car for a trip to Wal-Mart to find the gardening tools and some essential cooking supplies that were lacking from my bachelor home. I don't see what's so strange about the fact that I have lived here for over four months and still don't have any salt, pepper, flour, shortening, or measuring cups. But all that changed today, ha!
So while my Dad worked in the yard and my Mom started dinner in the kitchen, I set about to unsealing the windows that had been painted shut by the previous owners. I was using a putty knife and a hammer to chisel open the first window and was going nowhere fast. I got it all done excpet for one spot that wouldn't budge. After pounding on the blasted thing and working up quite a sweat, my Dad came in and said, "Oh look, I think that's a screw you're trying to chip through."
And sure enough he was right. The previous owners had not only painted the window shut, but also drilled a screw through the top of the window panel to lock it in place. Needless to say, things worked a whole lot better once I removed the screw. Good grief, thank goodness we can laugh at ourselves.
After the windows, I fastened some hooks to the front porch and hung two flower baskets which my Mom said were impatiens, but all I can say is that they were red.
A little later my brother and his wife arrived for the dinner my Mom had prepared: chicken, biscuits, and gravy. The food was fantastic, the conversation was laid back, and all was well. This was the first time my house served as the meeting place for a family get together and I'm glad it went well.
At the end of the day, everyone went home and now the cats and I can kick off our shoes and resume our bachelor life.
The next night we had to stay in a hostel closer to the city center. It was pretty nice too, but nothing compared to the first night. We were spoiled by that really nice hotel. Anyway, hostels are so cheap and if you can get a private room with some friends, it is very feasible. It makes it nicer to travel when you don’t have to pay much for the transportation or the lodging, that way you can afford food and whatnot. Most of these cities have really expensive restaurants and attractions, so it’s best to save where you can. The first day we walked all around the city, but it rained most of the day. Typical Irish weather, I’m afraid. We got to see Christ Church and the outside of Dublin castle, as well as Zara and H&M…haha. I can’t help it. I love to shop. That night, it stopped raining, so we went out to the Temple Bar area, which is very famous. We ate dinner, fish and chips..yum!, and then we went over to Temple Bar to listen to some live music and mingle a bit. Unfortunately, no one in that bar was Irish except the people that worked there and the band. Oh well. I did meet a German man called Thomas who bought me a drink and told me that my eyes were beautiful and he would like to see them everyday. I thought that was a pretty slick line, so my friends and I talked with him a bit and he was a real crack up.
After that, we went to another bar and got caught up in a group of guys there for a bachelor party. Those guys were really out of control and when we got a picture with them, one of them started licking the side of my face. Strange.
You can see it here. That night, we were walking back to our hostel, and we saw a guy with a rickshaw. He told us that he can get a lot of money from people who look like they’re rich. We asked him how much he would charge us, and he said 2.5E a head. Of course, we couldn’t let that opportunity pass us by, so we rode a rickshaw home. It was hilarious.
The next day, we went back to Dublin Castle for the tour. It was very informative and very cheap. We got to see all of the rooms where the presidents of Ireland have stayed and made negotiations, where British kings have stayed before Ireland got their independence, and the beautiful Irish rugs and Waterford Crystal chandeliers worth 1 million euro each!
We also went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral which had a gorgeous park outside.
After that we went to Grafton street, which had a lot of shops, so I loved it. We saw Elizabeth Hurley there give a short speech about breast cancer awareness, so that was really neat.
I’d say the highlight of the trip was listening to people with Irish accents, even though my Nana has one, it never gets old for me, also eating Irish candy..mmm Cadburys,
and last but not least, when Steph got caught doing an Irish jig in the middle of a tourist shop called Carroll’s. I think everyone got a good laugh out of that one…especially the people who worked there.
I dont know if anyone has been following this season of The Bachelor, but WOW, has it ever hit that "been there done that" phase. I have felt that way for the last 1 or 2 seasons, but now its really dead. It was so boring this season! No super big cat fights, no super slutty girls. Very sad.
At first I liked Sarah, the chick from Canada. But she just kept making Canada look bad. She evnentually came across as dumb, stoned and immature. Pathetic really! And the fact that she got so drunk on one of their dates that she couldnt remember parts of it? AS IF!
The two girls it came down to were nothing special. I started liking Moana part way through but still didnt think either her or Sarah Tennessee were overly striking people.
Last night was the finale. He chose Sarah, a teacher who incidentally lives in the same state as he does. They had to go all the way to Paris just to find each other?! Why couldn't the ABC Network just hook them up without all that extra cost?!
When he was rejecting Moana, I kept thinking "Wow, she is holding it together so well. I am very impressed." That thought quickly turned into "WHAT A BITCH" when at the car he said "Moana I am going to miss you so much, you know that right?!" and little witch responded with 'I could only hope. But in situations like these one really never knows now does she?"
Well there went my theory.
So as much as a fan as I have been, I think it is so done and over with. How can they possibly bring the ratings up? They even rushed it through this season to get it over with faster. Seemed like every week the girls were just dropping like flies!
UGH!
This was a good day... despite the fact that I didn't get enough sleep and was a bit run down all day.
I was pretty productive Monday and Tuesday, so I took it a bit easy at work today. Took care of urgent things (and there are always "right now" things that pop up) as well as a few easier tasks. Tomorrow will be busy, so I convinced myself that I deserved a mid-week break. (I'm good at that.)
Had lots of fun with ladyluck at work, too. She was in a weird mood. That's always good. I told her I was glad she was my friend. And I really am.
I often bemoan my lack of social life... and yeah... I don't have much of one. But one thing I do have is some great friends. I probably don't tell them often enough just how important they are to me, but they are. So thanks, masivemaple and siannon and beccapooka and stalkerchick and Gary (I know you read this; get an account, already). You guys rock.
I have to say I'm feeling more and more like a bachelor every day. Despite the fact that I have a fridge full of lots of yummy things I could've made for dinner, I had Honey Nut Cheerios. And I'm perfectly fine with that.
Tonight was the monthly Sac-Poly meeting. I finally got to meet one of my new MySpace friends there - Shannon. We chatted about comic books most of the time, I think. It's interesting, because her heyday of comic buying was actually after I stopped collecting, so while there was some common ground, lots of the stuff she had been into was unfamiliar to me, or only barely so. It was a cool conversation. I really enjoyed talking with her.
And in an apparent internet anomaly... she turned out to be even prettier than her pics online. Usually, the photos people put online are those that are most flattering. Shannon's pics are very nice. But they couldn't compare to the real thing.
When I got home, I noticed the interior light was on in Tiffany's car, so I let her know. She then invited me over, and we chatted while she scanned a bunch of pictures for a gift project she's working on.
She learned an awful lot about me tonight, probably more than she ever wanted to, such as the poly thing and the whole history of my relationship with Lorelei, including the tail end of my marriage to Cookie. There was a lot of relationship talk. She showed me the slinky black dress she's gonna wear when she goes out dancing with Heather on Friday. And so on.
Guess we're girlfriends now.
I was not home in time Monday night to watch the Bachelor's premier, so I had to tape it. I am JUST getting around to watching it.
As you would know from many past blogs I am OBSESSED with the Bachelor and I get so into it that I feel I am there (although I never get offered a rose to stay, I stay on my own).
I LOVE Sarah from Canada. The minute I saw her I knew she would make it through the first rose ceremony. She is fun and cute and so real! Or so she seems. It amazes me that in a room of 24 Americans and 1 Canadian, you can actually TELL she is Canadian. The way she acts is different, the way she talks is different (not her "accent") and the way she holds herself is different. It is kinda scary.
But ooooo chicky who said she was ready to move onto "the reproductive stage of her life" is SCARY! She keeps staring at him like she is ready to gouge his eyes out at any second. She is just plain NASTY! Oooooooo and she didnt get a rose. She looks PISSED! Oooooo she is tearing into the other girls about how she puts her career first in life and he doesnt, and how the only reason to get married is to have kids. Holy shit, now she is tearing into him about why he did not choose her?! OH MY GOD! She is mental! She is off to join the convent now, because other methods of meeting someone never works for her. Gee ... I cant imagine WHY!? Ha, at the end of the episode she tracked down a crew member and cornered him. OH MY GOODNESS!
They find all kinds of girls for these shows I tell you! There are some that look like his kid sister, and there are others that look old enough to be his mother. Miss Virginia looks ancient!
Oooooooo this season looks good. Mind you I saw that every time it is on!
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA! I cant wait for next week!
