Audio Books @ MindSay

e-book pleasure
I love to read. Unfortunately going to the library all the time is out of the question with my budget and gas prices. So, I looked into e-books this weekend. I discovered that by just signing up with a MAJOR HUGE bookstore, I was allowed to download the FREE Audio book of Into the Wild, about Christopher McCandless (see quote under my header pic). That was an awesome coincidence.

I also found another site called BooksonBoard.com that had many, many of the other e-books I wanted. Right now I am on a Joyce Carol Oates kick. I kind of want My Sister, My Love but I thought it might be too long for reading on the computer. I also saw (by JCO) the audio e-book of BigMouth & UglyGirl, recorded (before they broke up, surely) by Hillary Swank and Chad Lowe (luv me some Chad Lowe!!!) and I was torn wanting Billie Letts Made in the USA, which I had read the first chapter excerpt to, at least 3 times. All this confused me and I didn't buy anything. But registered an account.

That's when they sent a coupon that would only be good for 24 hours. (How'd they know that would work? :P)

I went back to the site and debated over which JCO book to get or whether to get Made in the USA. I ended up putting BigMouth & UglyGirl (Audio e-book) into the cart and then Made in the USA (just plain e-book) and noticed that the discount came off the entire order not just one book. So I bought them both.

The audio e-book worked fine with the Overdrive Media Console I downloaded yesterday for Into the Wild.

Downloading the 350 kb file for the MicrosoftReader was the problem. I had activated my reader but kept getting a message that I couldn't download my book until I activated my reader. So I e-mailed BooksOnBoard customer support and got an automated response which mentioned I need to open explorer and download the file that way. And it worked. :D

I am now on Chapter 4 of Made in the USA. Woo hoo. Next (sometime next week) I will listen to BigMouth & Ugly Girl and then Into the Wild.

Perhaps next weekend I will be able to download I Am No One You Know by Joyce Carol Oates (just the e-book, I want to read it). It's a collection of short stories, fairly inexpensive and I get reward coupons for the books I bought this weekend.

Then when I finally get to go to the library, if it is in, I will check out My Sister, My Love.

All good.

Entry 35. [Sick] --- A lack of sleep...

Dixie currently feels:

Sick Smiley

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I came home today, baked myself a chicken and bacon stuffed crust pizza - and ate it whilst I watched The Weakest Link.

I shouted out all the answers I knew, and I never got one wrong.

I felt rather intelligent, especially when the dimwits on the telly got wrong what I'd shouted out right.

Anyway, I think I've either ate too much pizza, or drank too much Sprite.

Maybe it was the dodgy ice cubes I put in the Sprite?

We buy bags of ice - dad likes to have ice with his cider on his nights in.

But the ice smells like seafood.

I have this really awful feeling that the ice is recycled, having already been used in seafood displays...

Eeewww...

I really hope not.

I fell asleep on the sofa at half 6.

Dad came in and fell asleep on the other sofa.

When I woke up, I turned over - and I rolled into a nice warm patch where I'd been laid.

I have a really high core body temperature - I'm ALWAYS warm.

I'm sat here in a room with no radiator on, in a towel, with wet hair - and I'm still warm.

It's not fair - I'm on a heavy flow period, and I've leaked a little on the front of my jeans when I was asleep.

Oh how the feminine cycle radges me so.

I fell asleep because of my lack of sleep.

For the past week, I've been satying awake until 5-6AM, talking to Emily or playing on my DS.

I'd wake up exactly 8 hours later, either at 1 or 2PM.

Last night, I couldn't sleep.

I laid awake with my DS, listening to some Fire of Glory recordings Emily had done.

Not that she has a boring voice - but when people read to me, I always nod off easier.

When I was little, I listened to stories on cassettes.

I still like to. :)

Ah, the sleep habits of some people. :D
