Arts, Artists, Artwork
Hello, my poetry blogged kicked me over here as a reminder. LOL

How is everyone?

I've been so busy these past months building sites for clients, becoming further engaged in the social media phenom... and teaching clients the same.

A big shift occurred recently with an emphasis on the arts.. not so surprising really considering my own love for creativity and what I see of others.

Check out the fan page on Facebook where I have created a central space for Artists to congregate and share their artwork with wider audiences. This began at the beginning of August and already is nearly at 5,000 fans for the page.

Lots of other things too are keeping me really busy. Drop me a note through Facebook to come back to check my inbox here if you leave something cuz I rarely get time to juggle it all.

Cheers, Lee

Foster, LAPD (ret.), MPA found the right mix of practical experience and academic credentials to write a definitive book for leaders. Working together, Harvey and Foster have written Leadership: Texas Hold em Style. Most often leaders find they are given a set of resources people, equipment, funds, experience and a mission. As Foster noted, "You're dealt a certain hand. How you play that hand as a leader determines your success."

More than a book: A fun and entertaining journey through leadership that includes an interactive website to supplement knowledge gained from the book.
Proven and Tested: Not an academic approach to leadership, but rather a road-tested guide that has been developed through 50-years of author experience.
High Impact: Through the use of perspective, reflection, and knowledge, provides information that turns leadership potential into leadership practice.
Ease of Application: Theory is reinforced with real-life experience, which results in accessible and practical tools leaders can put to use immediately.
High Road Approach: Personal character and ethical beliefs are woven into each leadership approach, so leaders do the right thing for the right reasons.
Uses Game of Poker: Rather than a dry approach that is all fact and no flavor, the game of poker is used as a lens through which to view leadership concepts.

EVER HAD A BAD DAY? -WWW.GRINDMODEC...

Each week we, as people, are bombarded with images of supposed celebrities, alongside comments that are dreamed up over coffee in media offices around the world (“Just look at her dress – how wonderful / ugly / whorish” *delete as appropriate). Of course, many people make a living from this – photographers, editors and even the stars themselves, right down to the girl who works in the Starbucks around the corner. That’s how the economy works, with each section having a knock-on effect on the next.

However, while the girl in Starbucks is selling something real, in that you can drink it, what are the celebrity gossip pages selling? They are selling two things, it seems. They sell fact and fiction, or dreams and normality. With one stroke they show us the red carpet shots from a glamorous premiere, we see the flashy cars, bespoke suits, designer dresses, camera flashes and air kisses. We see a champagne lifestyle, holidays in whichever destination is deemed the place to be (seen) and luxury mansions. We are sold a dream. A “wouldn’t it be nice.” However, even as we place our admiration or adoration on the perfect bodies, elite social circles and ostentatious displays of wealth, the cult of celebrity has a way of introducing a dirty side. Like a glass of wine across a designer frock, the sellers of celebrity bring those in the limelight back down to earth.

The slightest fashion misstep or a bad hair day can be enough to set off a media-driven frenzy of neck rolling and head shaking. Let alone a real drama such as that which Chris Brown and Rihanna have been caught up in of late.

The problem is that all too often we are encouraged to see celebrities as pillars of society, as bastions of grace and good taste. However, this is a tall order – one, which even those who are trained in such a demanding dignity, such as the British Royal Family – can find leads to easy failure. Where we should be glad of someone’s skill as a rapper, actor, musician or sportsperson it is easy to find ourselves wanting them to become a reflection of a perfect society. Whatever, nuance that ‘society’ may take on – as of course we expect different behaviour from The President, Will Smith and Snoop Dogg.

Perhaps it’s about time we began to redraw the blueprint of celebrity. When a child says “I want to be famous” we have to ask, for doing what? A famous painter, architect, musician, sportsman? To see a goal is one thing, but when that goal is simply a media-driven fame-for-any-reason mentality then we need to wonder what we are doing. And yes, positive role models are a good thing for all people – it’s just we need to remember that, without excusing the inexcusable, even positive role models might have a bad day…

PRESS PROFESSIONALISM AND GRIND MODE -WWW.GRINDMODEP...
With the invention of the Internet there can be no doubting that artists realized that they had more power to promote themselves at their disposal. Taking the control back (at least somewhat) from the hands of record label bosses and managers it seemed that a golden age for artists was imminent. However with the advancements came a price – that of professionalism. While the placing of a profile on a networking community and the obvious promotional power that gave is clear to see, it seems that with this self-control there was also a marked decrease in the quality of promotions. Publicists and promoters excel in their respective fields because they know what they are doing. As an industry insider myself I have seen some truly shocking examples of self-promotion, to the degree whereby rather than helping somebody’s career they actually harmed it. Poorly produced, presented or written publicity actually has a negative effect on an artists career and leads me to feel that sometimes it would have been better to present nothing at all. A well-produced, slick press release can pay dividends, however. It is important to make sure you are represented in the best way possible but far too often people feel that a link to their (for example) MySpace page will suffice. Quite frankly, it doesn’t. Such networks are OK for friends and acquaintances but when it comes to working with business professionals you need to maintain that business-like edge. Also, many industry insiders are too busy or simply will not bother hitting a link to see your website. Rightly or wrongly, they just won’t: fact. So, with that in mind you need to a) present yourself professionally and b) give all the information you need as effectively as possible. It is for that reason that Grind Mode created Grind Mode Press. It is a tool for you, the artist, to present yourself professionally to your target. We took a long time creating it to ensure it was as effective as possible – using our insider knowledge, not to fleece our people but to give you a helping hand in the game. Grind Mode has always been about supporting those who run with us and Grind Mode Press is simply an extension of that. With this tool you can send your bio, press releases and even your music direct to your sources. We even provide some names for you to send to in order to get you started, and with our system you get real feedback on every track you send out. I won’t front, it took me a minute to get really accustomed with everything that Grind Mode Press offers to you, the user. And as such, you may need to take a minute too. However, our team are here to help you get the most out of the service and it really is something unique in what it offers. This may sound like an extended sales pitch, but trust me – it’s not. In fact we are offering free trials to those who check in with us quickly on this one. If it was about the money we would simply go the same route as many others and give you a substandard service that just about does the job. But no, Grind Mode Press gives so many added extras that it really needs looking at. I can’t stress it enough and, having got fully to grips with it all myself this week I decided to use this Editorial to give you the inside scoop. Any questions – just ask me and I will do what I can to answer them personally. That is the level of my belief that this is something you should be looking into. Be professional about your business and don’t throw a spanner in your own game by cutting corners. Check out www.GrindModePress.Com today and take advantage of our offers – they won’t last forever.

MOOD MUSIC -WWW.GRINDMODEC...

Those of you with a more advanced musical appreciation will know what I mean when I say that different days lead to different tunes. Let’s put it this way, when the rain pours and the wind howls there may be a need to step outside with your coat high, your hat low and something suitably bleak on your headphones. However, when the sun shines and all seems right with the world it may be time to break out an equally bright soundtrack. And the mood is not necessarily lyrically defined so much as musically.

Of course certain locales are known for the type of music they produce. The Queensbridge housing projects, for example, traditionally crafted a particular sound that was very different from the sounds coming from the more expansive territories of Los Angeles. This geographical definition is further complicated by the local fashions and trends. Detroit, for example has become synonymous with a blend of sound that has less to do with Eminem and more to do with names like the late J. Dilla. All sorts of factors go into this - from housing, society, weather and beyond, leading to very definite local styles.

While this may seem stifling for creativity it has a great bonus for the consumer. A little knowledge of the stylistic determination of a given area can offer a heads up when it comes to finding other, similar sounds. Or more simply, if you know what you get, you know where to look.

Sure, there comes a time when there is the odd curve-ball thrown into the mix (think of Snoop covering some well-known New York classics across his career) but more often than not you can have a pretty good idea as to what to expect even before you slip a CD from its case.

Some days may find you feeling introspective and, on others, a little more outgoing, or even positively rowdy. So, that said, what are you going to be checking this week? No doubt it will depend on what’s going on in your life. As for me, aside from whatever I may check out for you all at Grind Mode, I’m just going to keep an eye on the weather and, if Spring starts hitting you can bet the music will get lighter to go with it…

Would love to know what you think?
