Brandon Oaks Apartments in Cypress, Texas
Brandon Oaks Apartments in Cypress, Texas
On October 31, 2006, my wife passed away unexpectedly. I was by her side at the hospital throughout the hours while she was in intensive care. The apartment staff was aware that something had happened, as paramedics were dispatched to our apartment. Needless to say, during the following hours, I was unable to drop off a rent check due to making funeral arrangements. I received a Notice to Vacate posted on my door by the manager. When I approached them about this, she was completely unreasonable. It was as if the rent check was more important than the fact that my wife had just passed away that morning! I did drop off a check, and gave notice to vacate in 30 days, and began moving things out. On the 24th day, I came home to find that the locks had been changed. While I had moved the majority of my things out, there were a number of items inside the unit - including my wife's wedding set. According to the manager, Angela Swindle, there was nothing in the apartment. I have been fighting this through the corporate office. After all of this time, nothing has been resolved, and my wife's personal items (which are very sentimental to me) have vanished.

Please, save yourself the grief. Find a better place to live!!!

that said, we need to find an apartment in which to make said home.

if anyone has any tips on two-bedroom apartments in the greater new york city area (this means manhattan, brooklyn, or possibly queens or the bronx) please share them with me!

Ebay, stupid buyers, and finding an apartment
I announced yesterday the finality of my impending move. So far this year you have heard nothing but maybe's, perhapses, and I hopes as far as it goes with moving. First if was England, then australia, then not moving, then australia again, then North Carolina, and now South Carolina.

Well I now can officialy announce that I know where I want to move to in South Carolina. I just hope it works out and if it does I'll have a new place to call home. So anyone that lives near North Charleston needs to send me tips on the area and what I can expect to encounter. Also ideas for small children in the area would be good as well.

On the subject of moving of course comes the subject of selling. I had to start selling the things that are profitable but unneccessary. To this end I sold my husband's WWII Samurai Sword [very simplified explanation of what it is]. It was not a family heirloom, but he had gotten it in England as part of his collection of military treasures. He also told me to sell it as we need the money. So I did. First sale I ever made on ebay.

Now one must understand that this sword was blooded and went thru a war. The officer who owned it broke it to keep it's honor in tact and not have it said that he lost his sword to the enemy. The sword then came into the hands of someone else who reforged it together. Broken sword. Sword fixed. I stated all this in my ad on ebay.

Sword sells using the buy it now option. Buyer asks no questions. Buyer pays. I send sword. Seems simple huh? Well today I get this email [not using the ebay system] saying that the sword was broken and therefore not as described in the add. Did I miss something? Oh yeah..now he wants a refund. I told him very politely that since I specifically stated in the 3rd friggin sentence of the add that the sword was broken and reforged the sale stands.

So I wrote ebay and alerted them to the situation and asked for advice. God..it's been one of them thar days.

My New Digs
My new apartment is pretty sweet, and I love that it's furnished.  Sure, the style might not be quite up to par with what I'd choose, but it's way better than having to get my own furniture.

Move in went great, and I had the help of some friends.  That definitely sped the process up.  I'm still in the process of putting stuff away, but I'll work on that this weekend.

Bigger And Better
I'm moving.  Physically moving, from one apartment to another, at the end of the month.  And also moving in terms of the great social structure...moving up in the world.  My new apartment building is, quite honestly, fantastic.  To me, it seems very sophisticated.  I'm pleased; I feel that it's something I deserve, and something I've worked hard to get.

"True to the Arts & Crafts and Mission styles, the building's simple, geometric limestone details communicate the beauty of the materials brick and stone, peppered with the flowery ornament associated with the Art Nouveau. Interiors have been restored to highlight the original tile mosaic floors and hand-crafted wood banisters, with the additions of Tiffany and Mission style light fixtures."

And the fact that the apartment is furnished is a really awesome thing.  I'll have plenty of nice furniture, all to myself.  I'm moving up in the world.
