Oikoumene!
OK, I admit it, I have this love/hate relationship with the Roman Catholic Church. However, of late, it seems that the Roman Church keeps doing things to reinforce the latter emotion. Just a few days ago the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia honored it's 200th anniversary by offering it's members a plenary indulgence. Shades of Pre-Reformation days, not to mention Pre*Vatican II(!).

Then on July 11 Pope Benedict XVI issues a declaration which essentially says that Protestant churches are mere "ecclesial communities" and their ministers effectively phonies with no right to give communion. Ahhhh! Shades of Pope Leo XIII, who in his "Apostolicae Curae", stated much the same thing back in the late 19th Century when he stated that Anglican Clergy were not really consecrated with the right intent to carry on Apostolic Succession! Even Pope Leo XIII couldn't fault that the Bishops of the Anglican Church, which he knew had an actual physical succession of Bishops within the Anglican Church from the Bishops consecrated before the break with Rome. Needless to say, the skinny on that gets involved with the ordination form in the Book of Common Prayer and we don't need to get into that here. What does result is a significant setback to unity. One would have hoped that the Pope would have been bigger than that.

I wonder if this Pope realizes that even Protestants look up to him and for many of the faithful who are Protestants this represents an offensive statement which diminishes his influence and respect.

Ecumenism has certainly been struck a severe blow. Someone needs to remind him that "People who live in glass houses should NOT throw stones!" My father who is a Roman Catholic convert and is staunchly Roman Rite, said this very thing the other day. He reminded me that once upon a time there were three popes! Three popes all at once! So, one is left to wonder about Roman Rite ordination and Apostolic Succession.

Then Benedict XVI reinstates the use of the traditional Catholic Latin (Tridentine) Mass! One can only wonder why!? Another huge step away from Vatican II. (One can only wonder how many priests these days can actually speak Latin?) The current Mass is actually an older form dating to the 2nd Century AD.

Now, as if to add insult to injury, the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to settle its clergy sexual abuse cases for something like $600 million! What on earth were they thinking? Then of course, one is left wondering just how many cases of clergy sexual abuse that they had in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles!?! Hello! Earth to the Archbishop of Los Angles! How do you spell BANKRUPT?

DYU Feb. Retreat on YouTube
I could embed it here, but instead -- if you want to see how I spent the first weekend in February out at Round Lake Bible Camp -- click here. It's just about 7 minutes long.

It can also be viewed at the website of the Thunder Bay Deanery Youth Unit: tbdyu.spaces.live.com.

Interestingly enough I came home today to two phone messages: one from Round Lake wondering if I could play guitar for a retreat this weekend (but I'm already playing for St. Thomas' "Parish Mission") and another from Dean Schaaf of the Dorion Bible Fellowship (not the Camp, but his kids go) asking me to participate in their 30 Hour Musicathon, raising funds for their building. I think I should perform "Zargons Invade Dorion Bible Camp", the unplugged version.

Anglican Disintegration

The Archbishop of Canterbury somewhat plays the role of the Pope of Roman Catholic Church to global Anglicans. That would include the Episcopalian Church USA.

As I read this sermon/speech by the Archbishop I became very disconcerted. The Archbishop is not concerned on keeping the Anglican Communion together based on Biblical principle, for he explicitly believes that homosexuals are people that should be afforded the rights and privileges of normal people. This means the Archbishop does not view the homosexual lifestyle as sin and deviant behavior as defined by the Holy Bible.

The Archbishop's problem then is to put a used car salesman's spin on the situation to keep the family together. Basically he proposes variation of associations rather than direct links to Canterbury and each other as a point of unity. You see, the Anglicans outside of Europe are Bible believers and find homosexuality as deviant and sinful. The American ECUSA is divided and will probably split between liberal heretics and conservative Bible Believers.

An ECUSA congregation in Texas is preparing to make such a transition.

If you have been following this moral influence in America:
Democracy and Divine Government, The Gay Episcopalian USA, Presbyterians (USA) and Episcopalians (USA) Should Form a Club, The Episcopalian Homosexual Compromise and Some Episcopalians Understand Biblical Morality.

Enough is enough!
The liberal diocese of Newark, New Jersey, has named Canon Michael Barlowe, a priest who is reportedly openly gay, as one of four candidates for the post of bishop! This move risks deepening a conflict with the global Anglican Communion and maybe even causing a split within ECUSA!

I mentioned this to "Semi" in an e-mail and his response was:
"I have a question: are these openly gay bishops having relations with a partner?  If so, that's like electing a bishop who was living with a woman."

My response to "Semi" is as follows: "
That is correct and your analogy is spot on! Clearly it is being done by the ultra-liberals and homosexual lobby to thumb their nose at the Anglican Communion and the Bible believers within ECUSA. I believe it is a concerted effort, many years, actually decades, in the making, to destroy the Christian Church. There are also the "revisionists", many of which are "neo-conservatives", who believe that the Holy Spirit is doing a "new work". These people have a faulty logic and exegesis of critical scriptures and buy into false arguments offered by the ultra-liberal and homosexual lobby.

You know as well as I do that, once upon a time, the Anglican Church was the jewel in the crown of Christianity. All the best hymns were Anglican (I include John and Charles Wesley in that crown!), many of the best preachers were Anglican, the best "movements" of the Church were Anglican, some of the most notable clergy, apologists and laymen were Anglican. Thankfully there are still notables today! Bishop N.T. Wright to name one.  :-)   Anyway, this is what makes it all the more sad! Clearly ECUSA has lost it's way in the gospel of social justice! While social justice is important, the church should remain true to the biblical and ecclesiastical traditions of 4000+ years of Church & Jewish history! I would like to know just what they would do with blessed Paul's admonitions against such behavior! 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
In His Peace!

Sell Out

As always the Episcopal Church can count on good ol' Rowan Williams to stand up for what's right. Sure. Williams, also called the ABC (Archbishop of Canterbury but really means Another Bigoted Christian), has decided to go back to the dark ages, ignore Jesus and throw another punch in the face of gays and lesbians. He prostrated to a group of sanctimonous, pompous, arrogant and ignorant Anglicans and I don't mean the Royal Family. To satisfy the Anglicans in South East Asia, South America and Africa he He said that you MUST toe the line on homosexuality or get put out to the curb. Now I expect this kind of blind loyalty in dogs, Baptists and Republicans, but out of Anglicans?

Hey if you wanna hate then become a Southern Baptist, after all they are the epitome of Christ's love. If you want to follow Christ's teachings then go to the Episcopal Church or the United Church of Christ or the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They practice such ungodly things as feeding the hungry (without making starving people sit through a sermon to get their meal), clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned and show compassion toward their fellow man (no exceptions). I challenge anybody to show me in the Bible where Jesus says, " Love your neighbor as yourself, except for homosexuals, liberals, the poor and anyone that dosen't belong to your church". Isn't going to happen anytime soon. Yes I know what Leviticus says. Well here is what the bible also says:

Leviticus 19:19 - 19 "You must obey all my decrees.
"Do not mate two different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two different kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven from two different kinds of thread. (NLT)

Better throw out those clothes with the cotton/polyester blend and farmers, God better not catch you planting the soybeans alongside the corn. Christians: 1 - Hypocrites: 0

Leviticus 20:9 Anyone who dishonors father and mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense. (NLT) Gotta keep those rugrats in line.

Christians: 2 - Hypocrites: 0

Matthew 5:32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery and anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery. (NLT) Anyone condeming homosexuality should focus on their own damn family first. Did you marry a divorced woman? If so you are an A..D..U..L..T..E..R..E..R. Christians: 3 - Hypocrites: 0

For the women out there:

1 Corinthians 11:5-6 - 5 But a woman dishonors her head if she prays or prophesies without a covering on her head, for this is the same as shaving her head.6 Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering.(NLT)

I don't remember seeing many women with covered heads in evangelical churches.

Christians: 4 - Hypocrites: 0

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 - 34 Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. 35 If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings. (NLT) Is that a woman giving a testimony I see? Leading a Sunday School class? (gasps!) AND giving a devotional!?!?!? Surely not!

Christians: 5 - Hypocrites: 0

Galatians 5:3-4 - 3 I'll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses.4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God's grace. (NLT) Just like his daddy and granddaddy before him. Sorry no pork chops, cheeseburgers or shrimp for you.

Christians: 6 - Hypocrites: 0

Here's an idea: try reading the WHOLE Bible before you open your mouth!
