Laurie and I talked about this yesterday:
Adam and Eve lived in a sinless world; yet both turned away from God. Why wasn’t that sinless environment good enough for them? Why wasn’t the relationship they had with God—unimpaired by sin—enough for them?
The apostle Peter tells us that the angels sinned. They were right there in God’s glorious presence. How in the world did that happen? That fact scares me more than just a little bit.
So we wondered if heaven will be different than we imagine. We will be in a sinless environment then. We will also be in God’s presence. The apostle Paul says that many things will cease after Jesus returns. Prophecies, tongues and knowledge (I assume that he means the spiritual gift of knowledge?) are the three things that he mentions that will no longer be necessary, since we will know as we are known. However, he tells us that love will never end. Then he says, “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Does that mean faith and hope will continue? In the light of the questions asked above, will we need them in heaven?
