I watched An Inconvenient Truth yesterday… and god… it scared the crap out of me. These are just some pictures from the movie.
I saw An Inconvenient truth last night.
I think you should see it too. It wasn't overly peachy or sentimental. I didn't walk away feeling helpless.
If you live in Australia and can not afford the movie ticket Intrepid Travel are willing to reimburse the fee (see below if you're interested)

Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing the world today. The evidence from the scientific community is now beyond doubt - unless we change our ways, the rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will have increasing and catastrophic impacts on the world in which we live. Ice caps will melt faster, sea levels will rise, weather patterns will change, water shortages will increase, tropical storms will grow in ferocity and frequency, deserts will expand and the world will have difficulty feeding itself.
But it is not too late!
The documentary An Inconvenient Truth is a remarkable film. It presents the issue in an easily digested form where the scientific data is clear and accurate. Despite the dire predictions, it is also an optimistic film pointing to solutions that people and societies can make to avoid the predictions.

I just got back from seeing it. Details on the trip there and back aside, it was a little slow, but definately interesting. I have to be honest that there wasn't much in it that i didn't already know except that the green house gasses are thickening the atmosphere and that's what's keeping the heat in. That's the only part I really didn't know about or understand before. It was helpful, though, to see the graphs and things because i am a very visual person. Seeing what SF is going to look like if half of Greenland and half of or all of the western shelf of Antartica go is what really got to me. then again, i'm from the south SF bay area and there are a lot of things in SF that i hold dear and that people I care about hold dear. There were a couple of points in the movie where there were odd segways into different points. It would seem it was going off on a random tangent only to end up semi-relevant, and during the first couple minutes of the movie Al Gore is portrayed almost like a rock star than a (ex) politician struggling to fight global warming. Other than that, if you know nothing about global warming, know a little, or think you know everything i'd still suggest seeing this. I'm glad that I did. Fuck, even if you don't believe global warming exists you should still see this movie in the same way you should still see Loose Change even if you think there's no way the government was involved in 9/11. I will admit, though, that as much as I hate Bush and his god-forsaken administration, there were a couple comments Gore made that i thought were a little out of place, but its true that they're more about profits for those polluting than they are for really making a better country, or even making a better global community. And Gore is also apparently a mac user, grrr. Fuck apple and their over priced ipods that you pretty much have to buy if you're technology retarded like i am and don't know wtf it means when people tell you that iTunes converts your music and that's all they'll tell you but no one will actually bother to explain it to you. anyway, during the credits there were also tips for ways to help reduce your various emissions and pollutants, but i didn't stay through all of the credits.
This movie definately made me angry, but at the same time, part of me wishes that i didn't care. Stupid conscience. I think its a good thing that I do, but still I do wish i could let this and all other worries in my life, whether they be personal or related to current events, melt away so i could just have fun and enjoy life. oh well.
