Really cool, awesome, fun, exciting, week that hasn't happened yet
I know I want to blog right now but I have no ideas as to what to blog about. Does that ever happen to anyone else? Alright. I've been wanting to let out my excitment for my week off next week, but I didn't want to kill it before it happened. Oh well, gonna let it out (gah, preposition!).

Saturday I'm flying into New Haven, CT to spend 4 days with my brother. We'll be spending one day in NYC, two days snowboarding, a possible trip up to the Orange Country Choppers headquarters, and pretty much anything else we can squeeze in (again!). This is wonderful because this trip will combine many of my favorite things. I have a lot of favorite things but don't think that that makes them any less special. Anyway. I will name these things in list format.

1. airports and flying.
2. snowboarding
3. Museums!
4. The fuckin library
5. my brother
6. Guitar hero
7. I don't have a 7th but even numbers really bother me.

So yes. I'm excited. Texas is a bitch to drive through (!!!). A BITCH. Anyone who's ever done it can attest to that. It blows my mind that I will soon be in such a tiny state. I wish I could explain it. Really the only places I've been east of Texas are Louisiana and two days in DC (this excludes a roadtrip to Wisconsin when I was younger that I do not remember). OH! I'm also going to H&M. I've never been but I hear good things. I'm kind of thinking itll be a let down but oh well. Alright blog accomplished. If anyone knows of some shit I should get into up in the CT area, please share. The end.

Europe's Worst Airport?

Having recently run the travel gauntlet and sworn like a sailor over security, I’m pleased to discover I had the good fortune to transit through some of the best airports in Europe - Madrid’s Barajas airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

I’ve always known that Schiphol is an amazing place. I’ve been flying through there for 15 years! Barajas, on the other hand, seemed poorly designed to me. Anyway, Barajas is nothing like London’s Heathrow, which wins top prize as Europe’s worst airport. Heathrow should be avoided at any cost. Read the NY Times article and the comments to get the full picture.

Happy Traveling!

I Should Be Happy

But I’m not. I’m on vacation. I’m in a beautiful country. I’m surrounded by family. I’m not happy. I love traveling, I just hate the actual traveling part. I’ve passed through 7 airports in the last few days. I’ve spent hours on airplanes and hours in airports, and I’m not happy. I’m angry. I’m pissed off that those of us who choose to support airline companies and airport economies by flying the so-called friendly skies must endure ridiculous security measures made to make the human race “feel” more secure, when they do nothing but cause grief, anger and delays. And oh yea, by the way, they don’t actually do anything to make us more secure.

I’ve been going over and over in my head exactly how to write these feelings and thoughts. Imagine my surprise when I open the New York Times website today and find an editorial that exactly expresses my frustration. Patrick Smith writes an aviation column for Salon.com and it is always right on. His NYT editorial should be required reading. We’ve got to do something about this airport situation, it is beyond reasonable! If I hear one more person say something along the lines of, “We have to endure it, because it is for our security!” I’m gonna scream! Wrong!!

An excerpt:

Six years after the terrorist attacks of 2001, airport security remains a theater of the absurd. The changes put in place following the September 11th catastrophe have been drastic, and largely of two kinds: those practical and effective, and those irrational, wasteful and pointless.

Indeed, the security measures I have endured over the last few days, (remove your coat! remove your belt! remove your shoes! remove your laptop! keep moving! bla bla bla), were definitely of the irrational, wasteful and pointless variety. I would, as one airport security agent suggested, avoid flying, but it is kind of impossible in my situation. Is there any sanity left in the world?

Who, lil ol me?

I'm on the TSA watch list. At least my name is. I went somewhere last week to visit family; at both cities, getting my flight boarding pass was delayed as the person at the counter disappeared to verify my identity. My departure city never gave me a reason for the delay but the one I visited, on my way back, gave me this document explaining that i was on a watch list for verification and that if i continued to have delays each time I went to the airport, I should contact the TSA; which I will. cuz i'm curious. It occurred to me though...I wonder if it might have something to do with my recent and past emails to Prez Bush. My last one was short but critical. Have I been put on the watch list of people critical of the Prez? Am I being harrased in retaliation? Inconvienced? Hmm...doubtful, but an entertaining thought nevertheless.

Well...just in case..this is what I'd tell him...."BRING OUR TROOPS HOME, NOW!"

damn it!
