80s Song Of The Day @ MindSay

The 80's Song of the Day - Andreux Week
This week (Monday, Wednesday and  Friday) of 80's songs have been requested by andreux.  We start off with a song that people called blasphemous! I never felt the song was blasphemous.  I've always felt the song  was about someone so controlling and domineering that he wants the object of his desire to feel like he's her savior. He wants her to confide ALL in him and believe in him. Keep in mind that this band already had a hit song called Master and Servant, a nice little ditty about S&M.  The 80's  SONG OF THE DAY is...

Personal Jesus (1989)
by Depeche Mode

Your own personal jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone whos there

Feeling unknown
And youre all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
Ill make you a believer

Take second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know Im a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal jesus...

Feeling unknown
And youre all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
Ill make you a believer

I will deliver
You know Im a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal jesus

Reach out and touch fait

The 80's Song of the Day!!!!
This one's a little mellow. Maybe a bit too mellow for the start of the work week, but now every time I hear this song I giggle and think of J.D. from Scrubs. The 80's SONG of THE DAY is....

Africa (1982)
by Toto

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
Shes coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, hurry boy, its waiting there for you

Chorus:
Its gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
Theres nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do whats right
Sure as kilimanjaro rises like olympus above the serengeti
I seek to cure whats deep inside, frightened of this thing that Ive become

Chorus

(instrumental break)

Hurry boy, shes waiting there for you

Its gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
Theres nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa
I bless the rains down in africa, I bless the rains down in africa
I bless the rains down in africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

J.D. crankin' up the Toto

The 80's Song of the Day!!!

I've once deemed this as one of the worst songs of the 80's.  I think it was number three on my list. What makes this song bad, in my opinion is that I probably associate it with the creepy and surreal video which depicts some sort of RenFaire acid trip.  Supposedly the song is about saving the environment.  The 80's SONG OF THE DAY is...

Safety Dance (1982)

by Men Without Hats

Turk does the Safety Dance

Ssss-aaaa-ffff-eeee-tttt-yyyy
Safety-dance!

Ah we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends dont dance and if they dont dance
Well theyre are no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to, a place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind,
And we can dance

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends dont dance and if they dont dance
Well theyre are no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to a place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance.

Dancez!

Ah we can go when we want to the night is young and so am i
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise em with the victory cry

I say we can act if want to if we dont nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile
I say we can dance, we can dance everything out control

The 80's Song of the Day!!!

Today's song was inspired by yesterday's IM conversation with my Major Dork of a a friend. The 80's SONG OF THE DAY is...

Uncle Major Tom (1983)

by Peter Schilling

Standing there alone
The ship is waiting
All systems are go
Are you sure?
Control is not convinced
But the computer
Has the evidence
"No need to abort"
The countdown starts

Watching in a trance
The crew is certain
Nothing left to chance
All is working
Trying to relax
Up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink"
Jokes Major Tom
The count goes on

CHORUS:
4...3...2...1...
Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Calling calling home...

Second stage is cut
We're now in orbit
Stabilizers up
Running perfect
Starting to collect
Requested data
What will it affect
When all is done
Thinks Major Tom

Back at ground control
There is a problem
Go to rockets full
Not responding
"Hello Major Tom
Are you receiving
Turn the thrusters on
We're standing by"
There's no reply

CHORUS

Across the stratosphere
A final message
"Give my wife my love"
Then nothing more

Far beneath the ship
The world is mourning
They don't realize
He's alive
No one understands
But Major Tom sees
Now the life commands
This is my home
I'm coming home

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming home...

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming home...

Earth below us
Drifting falling
Floating weightless
Coming coming home...
Home.....

The 80's Song of the Day!!!

It's been a minute since I've posted on of these eh?

I really miss this band.  I remember when this song came out my band geek friends and I lost our friggin' minds!  I was a freshman in high school when I first heard this song. Yikes!  Anyway, this song starts off with a sound bite from a Malcom X speech and ends with a sound bite from a famous John F. Kennedy speech.  The sad thing about this song is that today's kids associate it with Guitar Hero II.  *sigh*  The 80's SONG OF THE DAY is...

Cult of Personality (1988)

by Living Colour

(And during the few moments that we have left
We want to talk right down to earth in a language
That everybody here can easily understand...)

Look in my eyes, what do you see?
The Cult of Personality
I know your anger
I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the Cult of Personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the Cult of Personality
The Cult of Personality
The Cult of Personality

Neon lights, a Nobel Prize
When a mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set me free

I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your T.V.
I'm the Cult of Personality
I exploit you
Still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the Cult of Personality

Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the Cult of Personality
The Cult of Personality
The Cult of Personality

Neon lights, a Nobel Prize
When a leader speaks, that leader dies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set you free

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your God's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm
The
Cult
Of
Per
Son
a-lity!

I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
I'm the Cult of
Personality!

(Ask not what your country can do for you...)

(The only thing we have to fear is fear itself!)
