Yeah!!!!
LAST.NIGHT.WAS.SO.GOOD.
I don't know if I slept after I got home at 1 (note to all: NOT a mature decision to stay out until 1, even if you were driving like mad to get home...when you have to get up at 6); I just kept thinking/dozing about having to drive around to get people/places. Not very restful. And the WORST Sunday possible to not sleep, as I am about to embark on a 4-day/3-night overnight trip with my 5th grader and the rest of the 5th grade at my school and probably should have been in bed at 10:30.... but SO.GOOD.
They were so on last night. And I loved every minute.
Pictures of this and hopefully my excursion into nature when I get back. I 'ope, I 'ope.

I've had so many chances
turned my back and I ran away
I've (not) had so many chances
to. see. you.

Movie time!
Well, I don't get to actually see the movies myself, but they will most likely be coming out in Japan eventually. Anyways there is one movie that I was waiting for the release of with bated breath. I had high hopes for it, but knew it was going to end up being terrible.
I'm from Chicago. I'm a Cubs fan. I know how to love stuff that isn't very good.
But in this case I don't know if I can be so optimistic. The movie is "Hitman", and for as much as I would like to enjoy it, it seems like they really did do it all wrong.
First off, I loved the video game, but I am totally willing to admit it wasn't a very good game overall. The physics were silly, the engine clunky and the graphics sub-par. I can recognize that, but I can also blissfully ignore it too. I would spend hours playing that stupid game trying to get "stealth assassin" rank, then I would give up and spend even more hours playing on god mode with gravity turned off and laughing my ass off as a guard approached me, told me "this area is off limits", then went sailing through the air after I punch him in the chest.
Besides the silly god mode antics, what really drew me into Hitman was the story. Sure, they could have said that 47 (the Hitman had many aliases, but apparently his real name was just the sequential number that he was born in) was some sort of super human who was remarkably strong and fast, but they chose a much better route.
47 was a bit faster and stronger than your average person, but this is mostly attributed to his training. What set him apart was that he was bred to be incapable of remorse. He would carry out any contract with a cold, cruel accuracy, then disappear until his services were needed again. It was this last part that made Hitman such an interesting game to me. There was no real "run and gun" to it. Generally a level required you to fire only one bullet per intended target, and this is where the movie made a wrong turn.
I can understand that if you are making a movie about a video game you will assume many things. Your audience will be mostly young males with short attention spans and critics will pan your film no matter what you do with it. It's a defeatist attitude but an understandable one. It's still no excuse for what they did to 47.
Instead of the well thought out plot of the game, involving a seemingly invisible killer who is contacted through a shadow organization to kill without mercy, yet as the story progresses comes to realize that no human can be completely devoid of all emotion, we get a bald guy shooting things like crazy. Yup, two fisted sub-machine gun blastfests, in slow motion no less! From the promos it looks like the Matrix again, and from the reviews I've read it's like the Matrix part 2 and 3. Lots of pointless action that covers up what could have been a wonderful and thought provoking plot.
I know one day someone will make a truly good movie based on a video game (Silent Hill was pretty good, but I'm talking GREAT movie here). When that happens directors such as Uwe Boll will stop getting work and games with good plots won't be completely re-written for the big screen. I'm hoping they will one day make a Final Fantasy 3 (American 3) movie and do it correctly... not gay it up with fan service like they did in "Advent Children".
I know it's asking a lot, but please directors and screenwriters of the world, won't you do us this one little favor? For Christmas??
That's all I got for now, more to come!
