For awhile I tuned in to Adult Swim almost every night. Something has just happened lately that has been making that harder and harder. I guess I would call that something, "extremely shitty shows."
I mean, I'm not huge fan of Oblongs or Baby Blues, but at least at worst they made me feel numb, and not annoyed. That's not bad for late night television.
I don't like to call out shows, because I really don't feel like defending my opinion on something like a 15 minute cartoon show, but Minoriteam and 12 Oz Mouse are just really horrible. 12 Oz Mouse is so horrible that people have actually started trying to justify it's horribleness by saying there is some deep layer there that people are missing. There isn't, people just come up with that kind of shit every time a terrible show is clearly terrible and has no visible pro's.
At the same time, while 12 Oz Mouse's writing has at least made chuckle a few times, Minoriteam actually phyiscally hurts my eyes to watch. The colors they use are puke ugly. There's hardly any actual animation, and instead a bunch of still frames that might occasionally shake to suggest action. I might actually forgive that stuff if the writing didn't amount to 15 minutes of people yelling. It's the same kind of writing you see on CN/Nick kid's shows, where making characters scream at each other and make fart noises is a substitute for actually trying to write something funny for an audience you clearly don't respect.
It's the kind of show I might expect to see on MTV for a couple of weeks. Not on the same block that shows like Venture Bros. and Harry Goz era Sealab have been part of.
I really hate it
Still, in all your suckiness, I still love you, Adult Swim. Space Ghost is one of those shows I get nostalgic for at least once a month. Sealab, at times, has made me laugh harder than any show ever has. Venture Bros.? Well, it's simply one of the best shows on TV. There's a lot of shit being shoveled out of AS at the moment, but I'm holding out hopes that things will improve, if for no other reason than they have to.
