Yes, we are to acquire understanding (wisdom), but in much understanding is much sorrow and grief. Ecc. 1:18.

Why?

Because with understanding we can see the foolishness of the world and know the end result of the caranl is death. But the people of the world believe faith is foolishness and the end result of believers will be the same as theirs...nothingness.
