There are two teenaged girls sitting beneath the table next to mine, whispering and giggling away. If they are trying to hide, they're doing a shoddy job of it, for their bookbags are still splayed out on the table above them.

There is also what looks to be a wannabe grunge band
noisily pawing through the stacks of cds for rent. They seem to be on a
mission. Perhaps they are looking for cool influences as they write
songs in their garage. Knowing the library, they will probably end up
checking out Pat Benatar. Maybe I can rent it when they're done with it.

On another note, my supervisor has returned from her mini-break in Vegas (where she went specifically to see her boyfriend. And yes, she took her husband with her). I have been regaled with stories of missed flights, the lovely rooms at the Luxor, dinner at the Excalibur, a (comp!) show at the Tropicana, and then, of course, the main event at MGM Grand. Last weekend, one of the gals in my department celebrated her 21st birthday in Vegas (staying at the Luxor as well). Two weeks ago, another of my workmates and her husband had a little holiday in Vegas.

And now I want to go. So does my Little Buddy, and we teasingly discuss plans ("the Excalibur is only 11 bucks a night..."). But unless I happen to win a stay in the prize drawings at the annual Christmas Party (which shall be held here, to no end of my delight), I doubt a Vegas escape is in my future. But it seems that I shall definitely be headed to Ft. Meade, in either "early December" or "early January" (since Mum is on a space-available waiting list, the details are still rather squishy. Gotta love the military). And really, a chance to see the folks again (esp. around the hols) is better than a weekend in Vegas. Really.

Now I shall bring this to a close, as I find I'm being distracted by the older gentleman informing the librarians behind the info desk about the reasonings behind the separation of church and state, and how well (or not so well) the government inforces it.

Oh.

Yes.

The reason behind my location choice: internet access is severely limited, and so it is by the wonderful grace of the public library's wireless network that I have any connection at all. The library and Einstein's Bros. Cafe, that is.

Paninis and the world wide web.

It doesn't get much better than that.

Re: at the library
Hey.  At least you get internet at work.

And it's not just housesitting... it's primarily petsitting.  And, sorry, I don't do crabs.

Re: at the library
Well, that's good. I'd wonder what sort of sick freak you were if you killed them on purpose.

We went out west in 1996 and started our trip in Vegas. We stayed at the Luxor (all 4 of us). It really is unique. The elevators go diagonally and there's an amusement park inside--I can't imagine what it's like now 9 years later.  You can see the place (pyramid) easily upon takeoff and landing at the LV airport too. We just stayed the one night and set off for the national parks the next day, but we did spend a couple of hours in the casino that night (minus kids). That was an experience in itself--just watching the people.  We just played the machines and left just $15 poorer. I don't understand gamblers. Money comes too hard to lose it like that. .

When working at a travel agency whose focus is Vegas and Mexico, it's hard not to be intruiged by Vegas! *grin*  Especially when you can figure out how to do comp rooms...

Some of my coworkers were showing pictures of the hotels and talking about them... they're absolutely amazing.  That's the reason I'd want to go... to see the hotels (and shows!  "We Will Rock You"!).

Gambling? What's that?
