Agreed ... Feet of Clay is a good read!

Hi. Really interesting Blog! I'm glad you know God - so do I. I wondered if you'd Enjoy two books by my fave theologian Alister McGrath - 'The Twilight of Atheism' and 'The Dawkins Delusion.' Both cheap from Amazon. The second is a response to Stephen Dawkins, the British archatheist who embodies 'Atheist Fundamentalism.' Anyway, God bless.
Ian
Good grief. -_-' Don't even mention Dawkins to me please. That dude came to my school and all he did was bash people's faith and it was not very well done of him. He was supposed to be talking about his new book.
I kinda avoid theologian stuff because their arguments might not be all that much better. I have head of those books through Answers in Genesis though. (as a student with very little/no income i can't afford books unless my parents get them or if my library has them...and it doesn't -_-')
Glad to know there is a fellow Christian on here though ^_^
Thanks for the comment.

How about a response from Douglas Adams?
" Other people will ask how I can possibly claim to know? Isn’t belief-that-there-is-not-a-god as irrational, arrogant, etc., as belief-that-there-is-a-god? To which I say no for several reasons. First of all I do not believe-that-there-is-not-a-god. I don’t see what belief has got to do with it. I believe or don’t believe my four-year old daughter when she tells me that she didn’t make that mess on the floor. I believe in justice and fair play (though I don’t know exactly how we achieve them, other than by continually trying against all possible odds of success). I also believe that England should enter the European Monetary Union. I am not remotely enough of an economist to argue the issue vigorously with someone who is, but what little I do know, reinforced with a hefty dollop of gut feeling, strongly suggests to me that it’s the right course. I could very easily turn out to be wrong, and I know that. These seem to me to be legitimate uses for the word believe. As a carapace for the protection of irrational notions from legitimate questions, however, I think that the word has a lot of mischief to answer for. So, I do not believe-that-there-is-no-god. I am, however, convinced that there is no god, which is a totally different stance"

That was a very long and involved reply/quote from an author I only quote two lines of dialog from.
I don't like Adams' writings very much.
I am a Pratchett fan because he makes me think.
Adams makes my head hurt and my brain shut down.
Thank you for your comment.

I like both, and they are both very funny, though Douglas is definitely the more intelligent of the two. In any case, the point is that it's a response to that idea that not believing in god is still a belief. I don't believe in Leprechauns, and there's no special word to indicate I don't believe in Leprechauns, because there's no reason TO believe in Leprechauns.
Meh. To each their own in authors.
And you feel the need to bring up the subject of belief or non belief because?
Are you picking on short people? (joking)

I just couldn't pass it up, a quote from Terry Pratchett, who is the king among fantasy humor novelists, and practically a direct argument from Douglas Adams, the king of sci fi humor novels.
Except for the fact that Pratchett was not making a statement about belief. Just about atheists and the common issue that is counter to what they are trying to achieve. By constantly trying to disprove the existence of god (not that all do mind you) they are counter productive to what they claim. Why try to disprove the non existence something that doesn't exist?
Two different subjects I think between Pratchett and Adams.

Fuck you, what a stupid response. He wasn't making a statement about belief by making a statement about what others believe.
"Atheism Is A Form Of Belief"
Do you not read what you post?
I expect that the second the subject of god comes up your brain stops working, unless you really are this stupid all the time.

Foul language is not necessary on my blog nor is it appreciated. If you want to comment on something I have posted or what we are talking about I must ask that you refrain from swearing where there is no real need.
The way I see/read/translate Pratchett's quote and the book itself and other things he has had to say he is merely picking at the issues each religion/non-religion this one just happens to be about Atheists. In other books he picks at Buddhist inconsistencies and "Christian" inconsistencies. In general, Pratchett is always making fun of the issue of religion/non-religion.
The whole quote block reads:
"Therefore It Is A Religious Position,” said Dorfl. “Indeed A True Atheist Thinks Of The Gods Constantly, Albeit In Terms Of Denial. Therefore, Atheism Is A Form Of Belief. If The Atheist Truly Did Not Believe, He Or She Would Not Bother To Deny.”
Picking one statement out of the entire text is just as dumb as Christians who take one verse out of a whole paragraph that has to go together.
Saying this statement is about belief just because it mentions it does not make the statement all about belief or non-belief.
"Atheism Is A Form Of Belief" is just one statement out of a whole.
To answer your next question. Yes I read what I post. In fact I re-read what I posted just to make sure. Sorry if we don't see things the same way but thats how things go when tow individuals look at the same piece of art or the same passage in a book. It almost always meas something slightly to extremely different for each one.
So agree to disagree...without swearing thank you. You can have a perfectly philosophical and frank discussion without using bad language. It makes the user look like they're in high school and can't find a better, more mature way to express themselves.
And if you wish to discuss the subject of God then you should do so with a preacher-man or someone of that nature. If you are only going to insult and cuss, not listening to what the other person has to say I want nothing to do with it.
If you can be mature and civilized we can explore that topic in a calm, civilized manner.
But to answer your question about MY personal ability to reason and think about God/s/ess (whatever), my brain is perfectly functional. Believe me when I say that this question has come up in my own mind and from my friends. No, my brain does not shut down and yes I can use my own brain and not follow blindly what others tell me. And I don't follow others.
And if you think my way of seeing things is "stupid" then go elsewhere. You don't have to come back to my blog ever again. It doesn't matter to me.
Have a nice day/life.

Ah ha. I love it!! God is different for everyone, even if it is the "No God". It's a personal relationship, so no need to be apologetic warious
I like to read about atheism. It just solidifies my faith...if you can be THAT easily swayed to discard your belief system, it wasn't in your heart all along.
Hardly an apology. ^_^
I just feel that I need to make it clear where I stand. Some people have taken issue with things before because I did not say what I believed.

Ah ha! Very well then.
I know what you mean. Folks can start a war of words by taking things out of context. It gets weary at times..
