God’s sovereignty is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation, and to be sovereign God must be all-knowing, all-powerful, and absolutely free.  The reasons are these:

Were there even one datum of knowledge, however small, unknown to God, His rule would break down at that point.  To be Lord over all creation, He must possess all knowledge.  And were God lacking one infinitesimal modicum o fpower, that lack would end His reign and undo His kingdom; that one stray atom of power would belong to someone e4lse and God would be a limited ruler and hence not sovereign.

Furthermore, His sovereignty requires that he be absolutely free, which means simply that he must be free to do whatever He wills to do anywhere at any time to carry out His eternal purpose in every single detail without interference.  Were He less than free, He must be less than sovereign.

More on the sovereignty of God:
Isaiah 45:5a: I am the Lord, and there is no other, apart from me there is no God.
Isaiah 45:9b: Does the clay say to the potter, what are you making?
Isaiah 45:12: It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.
Isaiah 55:8: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.
(from the Life Application Study Bible, New International Version)

I love that God sees the beginning and the end of every situation, and that there are no surprises to Him.

Yes!  Perhaps the greatest relief for me came when I realized I couldn't shock or surprise God.  He loves me in spite of my imperfections and knows that we are just dust!  YAY!!!    How freeing is that?  lol

Re: Just a Thought on Sovereignty
It's very freeing. Have you ever listened to the sermons of Dr. Erwin Lutzer? Since 1980, he's been the pastor of the Moody Church in Chicago, and you can listen to his most recent sermons free online at http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/moody_church_hour/ - (and you can also download some of them for free) - I don't think I've ever heard a more powerful or effective (or interesting) preacher and teacher. I have also bought many of his sermon collections and listen to them over and over in the car. I can't recommend him highly enough. His sermons have made me think about things I've never thought about before. Right now I'm listening to his series on Peter.  Peter was SUCH a character, so outspoken and so terribly human, and yet Jesus Christ used him in a mighty way.
