Something quick to say this morning: I'm listening to
RUSH on the Saturday Morning Freakshow radio program on
UWSP college radio 90FM and it has me daydreaming...
The music takes me back to junior high school. Back when I lived in Springfield, Missouri just across from the Missouri State Fairgrounds. One summer RUSH headlined the fair. It was something magical to hear Getty Lee in the humid air. We didn't have to go to the concert, we just played in the backyard to RUSH. It was a big deal to me because I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music. In fact anything that wasn't Christian or church related was forbidden in our house. So I guess if it wasn't for that magical summer night listening to RUSH, maybe I wouldn't be such a classic rock fan like I am today.
Incidentally, RUSH also reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons, swords and sorcery, chicks in chain mail, garden gnomes, and Lord of the Rings. Theirs is the soundtrack of imagination and escape from the ordinary world. And there was something about that album cover for 2112 -- the pentagram. It was the first time I ever saw one.
Anyone else have fond memories of RUSH and other classic rock bands?
