Remember how I always complain that horror movies are all hack and slash and remakes and that there's no more gothic supernatural horror anymore? Well, I was wrong. See the following movie and get inspired. Or be scared. Be very scared.

After watching, some innocent souls out there are now going to be very, very, VERY nice to little old Hungarian gypsy women now. Or they are going to run away from Hungarian gypsies from now on!

When I went out to see it in my small town theater, there were some guys making very funny comments in the back row. Without giving too much away, the best of their comments were: "OH, NO, IT'S A NAPKIN! DON'T LET THE NAPKIN GET YOU!" and "That's the biggest iPhone I've ever seen!" (the camera angle put a character's iPhone so strongly in the foreground that it was comical) and "EXCUSE ME! I thought I told you to take me to Taco Bell AFTER the movie!" (during scenes where the supernatural knocking and creaking of wood beams sounded like fart noises). But soon the hecklers calmed down and got into the story. There were a lot of women in the audience, too, more so than I usually see when I go out to see a slasher horror flick. That makes sense. Because women like to see scary movies with good stories!

I kinda wished Bruce Campbell was in it, however. There were so many EVIL DEAD references, it made me homesick. Thank you, Sam & Ted Raimi for giving me a scary good time!

Oh, and THE Lamia is not a goat-headed demon, but a shark-daemon, hey!  It's a horror fantasy.  Anything goes, right?

I may have nightmares just from the preview.

You might!  Yeah, the sound design, music, and visuals went together very well.  Maybe too well for some audience members.  Maybe that's why some of the guys in back were making comments -- to lighten the mood.  Now, don't get me wrong, there were plenty of funny moments in the movie, but it really is one to get scared for fun without puking your guts out on a roller coaster.

Also I just loved the story.  You get so many folks these days scoffing at curses.  Maybe this will renew some people's fear of women with psychic powers!

THANK YOU for posting this review! I really, really trust you when it comes to horror flicks, so I am going to catch this one in the cinema if I can make it. If it is good for valentina, then it is good enough for me!

By the way, you would recommend it in the cinema, right? Or is it good enough for DVD?

I would say just go for it -- see it ASAP!  It's so worth the scary fun.

Sounds like one I'd like to see.   Yes, Bruce would make almost any horror/film better.

I still wish they'd make a fourth sequel to EVIL DEAD.  And I still go see any movie with Bruce in it!  Even if it's bad.

Aw, not even a cameo from Bruce? That's disappointing. I've heard good reviews of this and have been wanting to see this too, the only thing that is holding me back is...the kitty.

I will tell you this without spoiling the movie, they don't actually show the kitty getting killed.  They only suggest it happened.  It was the only part in the movie where I winced!  And then I lost my sympathy for the main character.

I kept my eyes peeled open so hard they got dry as I watched the film.  I so wanted Bruce, or even Ted Raimi, to show up somewhere... anywhere!  At least there were plenty of EVIL DEAD references in there, so I felt good.  No matter what, it is a fun movie to see.  Best with a group of like-minded friends!
