
Heck, I grew up like that, and I was born at the end of the Cold War.

I have very fond olfactory memories of drinking out of a rubber hose with brass fittings. Now that hoses are more often plastic it can't possibly be as fine an experience.
I guess not.
Of course there are times when being anosmic is desirable - like now when the kid downstairs is burning onions....

no sonogram, true; but my mother had an x-ray of her belly at 8 months to confirm twins. The doctor heard two heartbeats and wanted to know if it was multiples or an echo. It was two girls. 

...not to mention all the bacon, butter and balogna we ate... and don't even talk about the 'spam' and white bread, bicuits made with pure lard afloat in gravy and everything fried in hydrogenated fat...
There's more to be grateful for than I ever realized!

I am a child of the 50's - mid 70's and it all applies to me,both parents smoke camel unfiltered cigs,dad ate aspirins like they were candy he had RA and was disabled from it, my dad died at age 48 of massive heart attack, my mom is in her late 70's and is diabetic, arthritic, an stint in artery and high blood pressure, and all of us kids ages 38 ,43,52,54,57,61 all but 1 and he's the youngest and so he don't count
are overweight, various aches and pains of arthritis blood pressure, 3 new knee jobs, 2 hysterectomies and a bunch of other niceties, but hey it was great living on lard, butter and cream, homemade jams, biscuits and gravy and lots of farm fresh eggs and bacon! and not to forget the yard darts
