Today I am the big 64 and so far (I'm superstitious) I am really having a blessed, wonderful, friend-filled day.  I've received lots of fantastic presents and phone calls:   my spouse gave me a wonderful herbal book, Little Red sent me a great California landscaping book, my brother outside Philadelphia sent me a piece of McCoy pottery which had belonged to my grandmother, my sons are taking me to an Eritrean restaurant for dinner, and I just bought $100 worth of PLANTS for my backyard.  Two gardenias!!!!  Alicestreet suggested that I could now grow them in my enclosed hot tub area.  Yahoo.  Gardenias are one of my favorites.

And my younger son is installing the first of 3 gates which can be seen in the first photo above.  This gorgeous gate is the "utility" gate and so won't even be seen much, but I think it is beautiful, so I wanted to share it.  The other gate will be installed within a Japanese-type pavilion which he built over the rear entry where I will be getting out of the car to bring in groceries, etc. (2nd photo)    I feel so grateful.  For 35 years we have lived in this old place, and we are finally able to fix it up.  My husband and son have pretty much done all the work.  (I had a yardworker helping me too).  I did some of the work, but mostly had to keep the household going during construction and messes and did quite a bit of the plantings.

When I wrote about Staycations, I wasn't kidding:  we are most likely going to be sticking close to home this summer for lots of different reasons - not just gas, but because now we really need to economize after all this construction.  But I am loving everything and feeling very grateful for my new kitchen, bathroom and backyard!   There's nothing like having a kitchen from 1948 and a bath of the same vintage, to make me feel grateful when they were rebuilt.  Thank you Mindsay friends, for all your caring and concern during the time I have been on here.  This is my 123rd posting and it is the 23rd - and my birthday - which is auspicious to me!

Thanks J.  Maybe this is the beginning of some positive times, yes?

Glad to have put a big smile on your face.  You should see the new driveway gate that my son is putting up now!  Woo hoo, even nicer, if possible!  He made the whole back with metal, so it is braced and strong.  He's a metalworker too.  I am truly blessed and I have to remember that.  No grandchildren (yet), but great sons.  My other son made the suggestion about going out to dinner at the Eritrean place, cause he knows I love that food...

Oh Wow, and it's got e-ching coins!  How cool!  I love it.  And - they have the same bells as I do.  But I have my bells inside the kitchen door!  Thanks for sharing, Astro.  You are multi-talented, like my son!

Wait'll you see the driveway gate.  He's installing it now, Astro.  I'll take photos when he is finished.  For some of his other work, you can find it on my past blogs.  I have one post of the bathroom he just rebuilt and the weathervane he made for me (Everything is in Vane)  Gotta go take a bath in my clawfoot tub before we go out to eat tonight...I'll be back again soon.

"boss, she's back, Mehitabel is back in Tinbone alley...I hate to say I told you so, but that good for nothing Bill has gone and left her"   Trivia question of the day, Astro.  Know this one?  If you do, you are pretty darned good.

Re: Will you still need me, will you still feed me - when I'm 64?
That's because this is before your time...  When you throw anything after the 70s at me, I have a harder time, cause I was raising kids then and was a mite busy.  But after they got into their punk periods (and post-punk) then I heard LOTS of music and certainly went to lots of movies with them prior to that.  Anyway, this is a light opera - Archy & Mehitabel.  Carol Channing as Mehitabel.  Archy is a cockroach and Mehitabel is an alleycat.  It's wonderful, but quirky.  Wish I could have seen it live.

Re: Will you still need me, will you still feed me - when I'm 64?
I took the bath and washed my hair!!!  I was drying it when Mehitabel came back to tinbone alley.  I love Channing.  If you enjoy her, you would love Archy & Mehitabel.  Such a voice...haha, so earthy!

She's fantastic.  She was soooo young here.  Is she still alive?  BTW, it was Shinbone Alley, not Tinbone Alley.  Love her.

Awesome...I love the hardware too.  Your cousins are most likely around 10 miles from me...we DEFINITELY have to get together when you visit them again.  Bring some of your pineapple upside down cake ;~)

Re: Will you still need me, will you still feed me - when I'm 64?
Happy Half-Birthday to you!  I have a theory about that.  I seem to know more folks whose birthdays are the 23rd and I am drawn towards them the way I am towards others who are Cancerians.  There's something about the 23rd, plus they are great numbers in numerology - 2 and 3.

Today has been great.  Thank you Laura!!!

Namaste, A.
