TV hosted for free by ImageShack

I actually dislike most current TV programs, and with the economy putting the squeeze on our personal finances, I finally decided to get rid of our satellite dish.  The programming I enjoy the most has gone away, such as Pushing Daisies.  And shows that I consider intelligent, like West Wing, are usually gone by the time I finally discover them and are then available through Netflix anyway.  However, the two areas on TV that I tend to enjoy,  from time to time, are MSNBC with Rachel Maddow & the John Stewart show and music programming on the TV.

Our radio reception in our little valley is almost non-existent, so we haven't been able to play music on the radio, nor did we have a CD player in our living room.  Yesterday, we made a big purchase (for us) and went and bought a Bose radio with built-in antennae (plus an extra antennae) & extra CD player which can hold several CDs...And we plan to use our computer for watching MSNBC when we want, and I hope the John Stewart show...this will save us over $65 per month for the satellite TV and even though the outlay was large for the Bose, it will pay for itself within 9 months.  We're unplugged!!!

It's amazing what you can get on the internet these days without the need for cable etc. This is when you find out you are paying so much for something you don't watch. Good for you.

Seems like a lot of folks are doing that these days, like my father for example. It's just so silly to pay $50 + (usually more like $100 + though) for TV when you only end up watching very few shows on one or two channels. And like you mentioned, most of these shows are already available via the internet.

Nice to see you blogging again! Miss you around here.

well howdy long time no see here on mindsay, I watch little tv but we do have direct tv and we aren't home much, talk about wasteful! but laying on couch and clicking through the channels that have absolutely nothing worth watching is how my hubby chills out when he gets home. I usually watch after supper for  2 or 3 hours, I am amazed that with all those channels there really is nothing to watch!!!!

I watch some on this pc machine when we are in a big city , areas other wise it doesn't load good and we get a still screen off and on all through the program grrrrrr. I find I have a happier life when I dont watch tv or listen to news, I usually read the highlights on my yahoo page and if anything worth reading in detail I go there but usually nothing is that important.

so how in earth are ya my cyber friend?

take care

summer blessings to ya

Hi Gypsy!
Yeah, If I were you guys and you still get pleasure out of that old box (we had Directv also), then it definitely works for you.  I just couldn't see throwing $65 per month down the tubes (hahaha)  Interestingly, I kept phoning the place and asking for a deal to cut the payments and they said "no, not for people who are not NEW"...then, when I told them I was leaving, they tried to cut me a deal which would save $16 per month.  I told them it was then too late.  We really never watch anything but MSNBC, or sometimes CNN, when something big occurs in the news.  We watched all the time prior to the election, but we really haven't done that since that time.  I wanted the capability of being able to hear music too, but that's taken care of now with our new Bose Wave (woo hoo...really like it)  And we get radio news, including NPR, which picks up any slack.  I'm also an old-timer who gets two newspapers per day:  SF Chronicle & Santa Rosa Press Democrat (owned by NY Times, so good newspaper)  And we get Newsweek too, so we are not deprived in the news department.  Thank you for the welcome back on here, btw...yeah, lately feeling a need to blog again!!!

Feeling OK friend.  More creaky than ever, and I hit the big 6-5 a few weeks ago...glad to still be on the planet.  How are you????  xoxoxox
