Everytime I watch a speech of his, I am nearly brought to tears because of how inspirational he is.
Everytime I watch a speech of his opponents', I am nearly brought to tears because I can't believe they have a chance to take control.

I know exactly what you mean...we saw this last night on Olbermann. Then I was reminded of it in the newspaper this morning, so I went to YouTube to see if it was up yet - and there it was. The first one I found was the entire speech - which was too long for folks to watch on here. So I reposted it and as I did, my husband, who had spent part of the night in the emergency room with his uncle (96) came in after sleeping in late, and there he was, crying. I had goosebumps. So many folks say it doesn't matter if a president can't inspire. I disagree.
And yeah - don't even want to go to the place that McNasty inspires (or de-spires????)

My most sincere promises to myself to stay away from the media this week have all been broken. I am hopelessly addicted.
Yes, I am a tease.
Yes, I am a tease.
I've broken my promises too. I managed to stay away a little over the weekend, then all my husband had to say while we were having our nightly wine was "do you want to watch Rachel Maddow"? and I succumed easily...
I figured you were a tease, and I am a good subject ;~)

So would my 36 year old son. She's of course of another persuasion, but my son thinks she is very hot.
Yes... my sixteen-year-old says I'm stupid for finding her attractive. There's no accounting for taste. Still a chance, maybe she's bi.
You and my son have similar taste ;~) He likes tall, slender, no-boob women with dark hair. The opposite of his mother...hahaha
Tell him Pablo says he has exquisite taste in women. I'd be curious to know which famous actress exhibits those qualities closest to his ideal?
I think he likes exotic too...We don't talk women much as mom sometimes brings up relationships, meaning she would love grandchildren...
He and McCain are such opposites. McCain is sneering and nasty while Obama does, as you say, soar. Thanks for posting this. I missed it.
Yes - polar opposites. I don't think I could bear watching McCain or Palin on TV for 4 years or 8 or ye gads, 16!!! 8 has been enough with a doofus. I'm ready for someone in that White House who has a brain and can give a phenomenal speech to inspire folks.
If he'd be as good a president as he is a public speaker, we'd be set. As it stands, at least he can't be any worse than Bush... I mean Palin... err... McCain.
And if he can inspire, that's part of the way...then, if he gets a fantastic cabinet, that's another part. Add to that if he gets lots of Democrats in the house and senate - then maybe maybe we can get somewhere. It's worth a try, yes? This will be the first transition during wartime in 40 years.
Bush/McPain/Pain = disaster
Bush/McPain/Pain = disaster
I know that - but after these 8 years, I think we need to give the other side a bit of a chance (for a change!) Call it an experiment and if it doesn't work, bingo, in another 4 years we can look at things again.
If I were afraid to die, this election would terrify me. But the worse either of them can do is kill us.
I think McCain would come closer to killing us by starting I don't know how many wars...and running this poor country further into the ground. But then, you know my position ;~)
If Obama tries taking away our assault weapons, there will be a lot of dead Americans, too.
I do view Obama as the least worse of the two of them.
I do view Obama as the least worse of the two of them.
Obama is not going to try to take away weapons, I don't believe. For one thing, there are so many things on his agenda that he isn't even going to have time to begin thinking about that. Look at the mess he will inherit. It's like hell, thanks to Bush.
I think Obama has even come out saying something about this and that he was not going to mess with it.
I've seen you say four letter words, so just come out with it, it's a bunch of bullshit, chickenshit, and maybe even a little bit of crap, too!
Moi???? As Darkseid would say...Like Miss Piggy? hahaha
Yes, it becomes total bullshit - my father's favorite word!

Ah...you just couldn't come right out and say he was terrific...hahaha!
(on the other hand, I can ;~)
(on the other hand, I can ;~)
No, it wasn't terrific. It kind of sucked.
My biggest fear is that steps like the ones he'll take will prop up suburbia, which needs to die.

Damn...this new computer...I think I am posting something and it goes away.
I hope you will give him a little room, Saik, to try to straighten out this mess. I think he really is for the little guy. Not the corporate CEOs that the NeoCons love.

The little guy, sure, but hopefully not all the little guys. Suburban America is as much to blame as some of those developers and bankers.
In what way? Horrible mortgages and taking out huge loans to pay for boats and big new cars? They were greedy, I agree. And duped. Is this what you are talking about?
The destruction of the land. Without the suburbs, the mall culture, the parking lots, the addiction to cars to go everywhere... Between the corporate farms and the suburbs lies the cause for the near extinction of the family farm.
I totally agree with you on that. But these folks were sometimes just the recipients of the developers who did that. Of course, back in the 50s and 60s, when suburbs just began, folks saw it as a way to escape the city - not realizing at all the ramifications of their moves. No one thought of those things then, Mikey. It was working class stiffs who moved into Levittown, as a way to get out of the cities, which were becoming so horrible. Of course, now, suburbs are absolutely horrible for farmlands and using up resources. I totally agree, but back then no one thought much about the environment.
If I were dictator, I'd put forth an instant moratorium on new house construction, and designate every acre of every family farm a national landmark of sorts to effectively make it impossible for it to be developed...
And you know what? I would agree with you. I've been fighting development around here since we've lived here for the past 35 years. This was a little town with farmland all around. Now the rich folks own 5 or more acres each, outside of town. And we have the best farmland...I have fantastic land. It's sandy loam. Luther Burbank, the plant wizard, had a farm here inside my little town. He spoke of this spot as the best around. And of course I know what PA's farmland is like. I still have lots of family in Lancaster County and Berks County (and can't remember what York is, but family there too)
York is good farmland, too. There's a correlation between USDA Prime Farmland and suburban development.
I do know that the prime farmland out here (some of it) has been taken by folks who have lots of money. And other farmland has been changed over from regular crops to thousands and thousands of acres of grapes for wine. It's unbelievable out here. And yes, I know that at least grapes are a crop - but they use up way too much water and other resources. Wells have gone dry since they were put in. Prior to that we had hops and prunes and they were replaced with apples, which didn't need to be watered much. The apple orchards out here are mostly gone now, replaced with grapes. We still have little farms with organic lettuce, and diverse crops. And of course we have chickens ranches and cows...lots of them. And we have very strict city limits in place...
Something needs to be done to curb urban sprawl. Eventually, people are going to have to come to realize that not everyone can have a house and a lawn if we want to function as a society.
That, too. I plan on adopting, not making my own when the time comes. Accidents do happen, but that's the intent. It seems reckless and irresponsible to make more of something when there's already a surplus of it.
Yes, I have such mixed feelings. I would love some grandbabies, but if they are adopted, that's fine too...
I don't even really have mixed feelings. I've got a nurture over nature philosophy on the matter. I'd rather my values are passed on than my eye color.
Good for you - and I mean that! I worked in Population Planning at the University of Michigan until we moved out here. I am very committed to Zero Population, which is why we had 2 children. I believe over population is one of the major causes of decimation of this poor old planet...
At least in places like Africa, nature has a fighting chance of keeping populations under control. Here... we've circumvented nature too much for that.
Yep, I agree. I am a Darwinian. We are making the gene pool very weak indeed, in this country and other developed nations.
