It was a beautiful crisp, cool day at Stone Mountain park for the 34th annual Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival.

Beautiful location on the water (with just a hint of menace in the air...)

According to Scottish tradition, every family clan has their own distinct tartan patterns. This began because the local weavers for each area would favor certain patterns and colors, and eventually these patterns came to represent the main family. Handy for the constantly warring Celts- if you know your tartans, you can tell at a glance if a stranger belongs to a family that is friend or foe. In modern times, businesses sometimes have tartans designed to represent their company.

This appears to be the tartan for Clan UPS Delivery.

At least 100 different Clans and Tribes were represented with their own booths, from McDonalds to Martians.

There is a huge variety in what people wear with their kilts- traditional to hippies to cowboys.

A man is never too young to learn to wear the kilt.

More pictures, stories- maybe even video- in the next day or two.

The Games are on again tomorrow, hopefully the weather holds. The park was packed, no parking anywhere! I didn't even get to see the carvings.

You would have enjoyed it muchly. Of course, the edited version I share doesn't show nearly all the Celtic Cuties, but it does remove all the potbellies and men who really shouldn't be wearing kilts in public.

and my burning eyes appreciate your thoughtful gesture on our behalf.

yow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i bet if you think about it, those same men are responsible for 85% of retinal damage caused when older men wear speedos they wouldn't have worn when they were 17.
