When Heroes finally returns to the screen at the end of this month, reportedly one of the new heroes will  be played by the fantastic Christopher Eccleston. (AKA the 9th incarnation of Doctor Who, from the 2005 series.)

Sadly, his superpower will not be time travel.

Oooh...he's got such a great face! His has been the favorite of the Doctor Who portrayals that I've seen.

Re: fantastic!
Nobody does dark and scary/charming and funny like Eccleston.

Was never really a fan of "classic" Who, but I think he was brilliant. It's possible that I might have a teeny crush on David Tennant, the current Doctor- but even so, I still think Chris was the best Doctor.

Re: fantastic!
Lots of people agree with you, and many are laying the current Dr Who revival in popularity at his feet.

Re: fantastic!
There are many factors to the popularity of the revival- quality special effects and production values, talented writers, having Russell Davies as the driving force, an entire cast and crew who love what they're doing.

But yeah, Eccleston was probaby the primary factor that initially hooked me.

Funny how its the completely mainstream top show, number one thing going in Britain- and here it's pretty much limited to the raving fangeeks.

Re: fantastic!
It's going mainstream soon enough; Sci-Fi will be running it if they aren't already!

Re: fantastic!
They are/have, but I dunno if most people would exactly call SciFi "mainstream." Majority of people here aren't even aware that there is a new Who.

Re: fantastic!
What most people would want to see, and what the people who are supposed to know what the people want to see don't think they can handle, ( work that out ) is Torchwood. You've seen it, it's too hot for US tv but it would be exactly what people want.

Re: fantastic!
No, Torchwood I definitely don't see as having mass appeal- although in theory it should've been brilliant. Kinda lost interest in it myself, (even with Cap'n Hotness) although I've heard it gets better later in the season. One reviewer summed it up well- "somehow managed to feel like both a multi-coloured children's show and a heaving sex-and-gore bodice-ripper at the same time. Interesting," he concluded, "but possibly aimed at madmen."

Re: fantastic!
Hm. Bring Back Firefly, I say.

You know, I have a theory on why the Sci-Fi channel didn't pick up Firefly. See, the Sci-Fi Channel has this deal with every show they have- they take the female leads , put them in tank tops 4 sizes too small, and force teh producers of the4se shows to show the female leads in them a certain number of times per episode. Doesn't matter what the situation is, she's gotta be in a tight tank-top. Just out of a Staff Briefing? Female's in a tight tank. Crawling otu from under a truck? Tank top. Repairing a nuclear reactor that's lost its shielding? Yep. Tank-top.

SO Sci-Fi says to Joss 'The Bastard' Whedon, they say, 'Now, Joss, you old bastard, you gotta put them babes in a tank top. Dump that frumpy jumpsuit! Tank tops Sell! TIGHT  tank tops! Zoe kills a man with her bare hands- IN A TANK TOP!! Oh God that's HOT!'

And Joss, ever the thoughtful and considerate man, thinks it over for about a 32nd of a second and says, 'Screw you, Sci-Fi. Kaylee wears that jumpsuit for a REASON. You want tank tops? Go watch StarGate or Atlantis or Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica or even Buffy. But no Wife of Wash is gonna wear a tank top just because YOU want her to.'

And Sci-Fi , in their exceeding wisdom and foresight, declined to pick up Firefly because Joss wouldn't put Kaylee or Inara or Zoe in a tank top.

Or something.

Re: fantastic!
Obviously, SciFi channel is secretly owned by tank top manufacturers. I mean, what else could possibly be the reasoning for that?
edr on
Re: fantastic!
Tank Top Makers or Sci-Fi Nreds. Or both.

You'd think they'd see the wisdom of expanding into jumpsuits though. I mean, WASH wore a jumpsuit. Kaylee wore one, heck even JAYNE wore one once.

Re: fantastic!
My poor little mind is still blown that you're complaining about chicks in tight tanks instead of baggy but practical jumpsuits.

Re: fantastic!
Oh, no no no, you got me all wrong here.
I'm not complaining about chicks in tight tank tops, not at ALL. I'm complaining about Firefly not getting picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel!

If he could time travel, Heroes wouldn't be behind schedule and have to take a month off. :^D

Well, even The Doctor never has been terribly good with accuracy in exact times...

"All the rest of you heroes -- you were fantastic.  And you know what else? So was I!"

I'm definitely looking forward to this.

A bit off-topic -- did you see "The Runaway Bride?"  What did you think?  I felt that they did some clever things...

christmas trees are dangerous.
"Nice to meet you, heroes. Run for your life!"

Did I see it? Oh, you're funny.

Could've been better, but definitely fun. Tennant hit a nice balance and wasn't chewing up the scenery as much as usual (thankfully) but whats-her-face as the spider creature queen more than compensated. Loved the brilliant chase scene, and the kids mouthing "Jump!"

Thought they found a good balance of Ten missing Rose, eyes welling up a bit at the mention of her. I'd been wondering if they could strike that balance, so much of the show had been about the relationship between the two of them. Obviously he can't go off into deep dark emo-land missing her, but they can't ignore that she ever was there, either.

Ok, I'll stop there.

What did you particularly enjoy?

Re: christmas trees are dangerous.
I, too, liked the chase scene and "jump!"   But what I really liked was the character development of a lead female who decides that she shouldn't go with the Doctor in the end. Someone who sees it not as an adventure, but rather as a chaotic way to spend a lifetime. It also appeared that the "chemistry" between them was a fun one to film, knowing in the end that these two characters were not destined to be together. When she demands "What sort of Martian are you?" several times without really getting who or what he is, as well as the "God you're skinny; this [jacket] wouldn't fit a rat!"  Also nice to see her get upset at everyone for having the reception without her.

Come to think of it -- I really liked when people went off on her. Including her fiance when he finally came clean about his motives.  Or when the Doctor realizes that she's gone when he says "... and you've never been so quiet..."

And I kind of liked "This time it's personnel..."

Re: christmas trees are dangerous.

I confess I may have cheered just a bit when she turned him down, but it was at least partly because I can only tolerate that screechy voice of hers for so long. They did a nice job of believable character development with her in a short time. From screechy, annoying and completely self centered to… well, still screechy but more likable, and at least seeing a bit of the big picture.

It was a nice change to have someone who didn't think the Doctor is the greatest thing since time itself, didn't want to save the world and explore time and space! with him- but still realized that he shouldn’t be alone.

Chemistry- indeed. Rather explosive chemistry at that.

“It’s weird. I mean, you’re not special, you’re not powerful, you’re not connected, you’re not clever, you’re not important…”
”This friend of yours, just before she left, did she punch you in the face?”

If the pockets are bigger on the inside (!) why couldn’t the whole jacket be? Wow, they could sell a bazillion of ‘em. No more need to hotwire ATMs.

He is ridiculously skinny. I don’t think the TARDIS is feeding him enough chips.
