The National Review Online conducted a symposium on Iraq Study Group (ISG). The names involved are Peter Brooks, Victor Davis Hanson, Clifford D. May and David Schenker.

The NRO panel of writers is unanimously critical of the ISG report. Some agree about criticizing Iraq for not doing their part to battle sectarianism in Iraq. Agreement ends there.

The NRO panel points out that dealing with Syria and Iran for the sake of ending chaos is ludicrous. Both of those nations thrive on chaos in order to be players in the Middle East. Dealing with Syria and Iran will mean America forcing to give something up that will be unpalatable at best and unenforceable at worst.

Dealing with Syria will sell out Lebanon and Israel. Syria will want to dominate Lebanonese politics and the return of the Golan Heights. The Golan Heights are used as an invasion buffer to continuously belligerent Syria.

Dealing with Iran will cause the West and America to live with a nuclear armed Iran. There are huge hints that America and the West are willing to acquiesce on this issue. I have heard talk from the new Secretary of Defense (designate) Robert Gates understands Iran’s need to go nuclear. Iran is surrounded by potentially nuclear armed enemies: Sunni Pakistan, Russia, Israel and American WMD armed Naval and Military in Iraq and in Afghanistan. That sounds like the go ahead to me.

Read the NRO Symposium written relating to the ISG.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! An inclusionary foriegn policy concerning the middle east is not necessarily a bad thing. It might serve for peace in the long run. Like it or not... Iran, Syria and unfortunately Islam aren't going to just go away! It might make it easier to win "The War of Ideas" if we were to engage these countries... or not! See ya!

Re: NRO Symposium on ISG
Gary it sounds very commendable and utopian to battle an enemy like radical Mohammedanism with ideas; however that culture is intolerant that putting off the battle of the flesh could make even worse when it happens.

It will happen, for Mohammedans are an untrustworthy adversary. It is ingrained in their heritage to make peace to slaughter later.

Re: NRO Symposium on ISG
Well.. I certainly agree that no Muslim country is about to embrace democracy! Islam teaches there is NO seperation of church and state, nor should there be! They insist that Allah is God and that a government should abide to Islam... To say that the sectarian violence going on in Iraq is politacal is to prove you don't know what you're talking about. Islam does not seperate religion from politics.. It's that simple! They are Muslim people and want a Muslim government! That is terrifying! Can you imagine what would happen if Syria became the next world super power? Or if Iran was able to mobilize a middle east armed with nucleor weapons against western decadence? Muslims believe America is evil for supporting things like freedom of religion instead of running a theocracy based on rumors and ancient philosophies that no longer pertain! Islam is no better than Christianity in its outcome. Both religions suggest a black and white judgment which is anything but fair (and far from being perfect). The thing neither religion understands is that neither of them is right.. God is the God of everyone whether they know it or not. Just because you don't believe in Jesus or that Mohamed is the Prophet means almost nothing! God is a lot smarter than we are and it's ridiculous to think that God can't sympathize with the devil sometimes! The knowledge of good and evil (so far as Actual Free-will) doesn't have to be a bad thing! Coupled with Perfect On-going Justice and a Permanent 2nd Chance it gaurantees liberty and justice for all (including you)! A person will get exactly what they deserve (good or bad) because that's the way it should be! Any religion that teaches that human beings must choose between Heaven and Hell fails to see the light! A perfect God has to be fair to be perfect and it doesn't take God to determine what's fair! It's common sense! I call it According to Le-way! See ya next year... and for the next 3 1/2 decades! See ya on the other side!

Re: NRO Symposium on ISG
Smiley Spoken like a bi-sexual Le-way advocate. Of course you know I wholly disagree with your theology, however in America you are welcome to your beliefs Gary.

You are correct about Mohammedans conjoining religion and politics, but mistake that for the attitude of the ruling despotic elites of the Middle East. Probably only Iran is sincere about the Umma (merged political-theological) controlling every aspect (government and citizens) of life.

The ISG is all about an American political perception to bail out of the Middle East and hope that old school politics will maintain an old school global economy. The problem is that generations of educating Middle Easterners to hate Israel and America has caught up with the religious fervor of radical Mohammedans. The common Mohammedan Middle Easterner is sympathetic to the jihad talk of the Islamofascist terrorists.

That means as Jihadist exploit the perception of victory of the West, the Jihadist will begin to see themselves as the sword of Mohammed bringing their intolerant violence to subjugate the West.

That means you and I will no longer have the luxury to disagree because will both be considered fakir (unbelievers). On the otherhand I might survive because I would be part of the people of the book and Le-way is not. I would become a submissive second class citizen and you will lose your head (or convert to Mohammedanism). Smiley

Re: NRO Symposium on ISG
I don't know... It's possible to consider my beliefs in tune with the "People of the Book". Although, I'm not sure I'd even put it that way. Le-way is a monotheistic religion. We believe in a Perfect, All knowing, All powerful, and Absolutely fair God who is the creator of Universe just like the "People of the Book" do... problem is by that logic you might want to include Zoroastrianism as People of the Book since they also believe in a single God and describe Him in roughly the same way. I doubt seriously that there is a single God inspired religion on this planet that does God justice! Le-way is God inspired but is it perfect? Probably not! Christianity clearly isn't (cuz it's not fair) and Islam is even worse... when I first started to learn about the religion I sort of liked the whole Submission to God idea. To me that made a lot more sense than having to know the password... what was it again? I keep forgetting.. Oh yeah! Jesus! Then I found out that you have to believe that Mohammed is the prophet which is the exact same bull crap that Christianity is selling, except the guys not God! Furthermore... once again we fall into the Heaven or Hell.. one extreme or another catagory...which simply isn't fair and therefore can't be true and even if it was true, I'd want nothing to do with it! I like Le-way because it provides leeway! It's too bad that you won't admit what you must know inside! That God is perfect and that your religion isn't??? See ya on the other side!

The prodigal son parable is how God views humanity. The obedient brother had issues and the profligate brother (the prodigal) had issues. God as the Father tries to find a way for humanity to come to its senses and discover the Father's love.

Re: NRO Symposium on ISG
huh? There's only one way to go to Heaven and it's not by knowing the password or the secret knock! It's by surrendering your knowledge of good and evil... but you'll be fine... being a Christian will suffice...I assume! See ya!

The password is simple and the knock is not secret. For those who refuse to knock, the door will not open.
