My Muse has returned from her personal day away, and to show me how much she loves me, she bought me a fortune cookie.  Or, more accurately, she had one sent over to my table at lunch today.  (Or, even more accurately, I pretend she sent it to me, because it makes a much better story, doesn't it?  That was a rhetorical question.)

A thrilling time is in your immediate future.

Or so says my cookie's fortune - but my Muse was not present for translation purposes.

I think there should be a hotline set up for such services.  Dial 1-888-FOR-TUNE and friendly operators will be standing by (what exactly are friendly operators doing when they "stand by", I wonder?) to take your calls and answer your questions about your cookie's fortune.

I have so many things I want to know, you know!  Here are my questions.

1) What makes this particular time thrilling?
2) Is this time referring to an event, or say, a specific time, like, oh, I don't know, 11:11pm?  Or perhaps the minute I post this, whenever that may be?  Publish Entry and then The Thrill is Gone?
3) Is this time to be a thrill as in a thriller (i.e. go out to unlock my bicycle to find, well, no bicycle and a little note attached to my bike lock that reads "if you want to see your bicycle alive again, you'll do exactly what I write)?  Will Alfred Hitchcock make a cameo appearance?  (If his ghost showed up, I know I'd be thrilled, in a pee-my-MC-pee-pants kind of way.)
4) When exactly is immediate?  Is it immediately?  At 11:11pm, you will have reached your immediate future.  Please press the pound key.
5) Isn't immediate future somewhat of a paradox?  (Kind of like Now and Laters - shouldn't they be Now or Laters?  Or The Future is Now...so soon to be The Future was Then...as soon as you catch up, it's past, no?)
6) How thrilling a time can it be if it fits into an immediate future?  Either the immediate future must be very large or the thrill must be very small, right?
7) When did I receive this immediate future of mine where I'll supposedly find this thrilling time?  Is it hidden somewhere?  Or will I, perhaps, get my immediate future sometime in my immediate future (provided an immediate future is even possible)?

And my biggest concern is this...how do I know if this thrilling time will even be mine once I find it?  What if someone just spotted my immediate future and thought to themselves "Hmm...this looks like a great spot to store my thrilling time while I go to use the bathroom"?  The immediate future is clearly mine, whatever it is, but I don't know about the thrilling time.

The measure of my Muse's love for me is directly proportional to the amount of confusion she can cause me, or so I'm beginning to believe.  That's the kind of relationship we have.  But I'm going to refuse to be thrilled at that revelation in the hope that it has nothing to do with my so-called fortune's coming true.

Oh, and if you happen to see my immediate future lying around, could you please drop it off or mail it to me?  Thanks.

Stupid cookies.

Oh goodness!!!

I know I saw it around here somewhere.... your immediate future... it's orange, isn't it?

no?.... hmm

geesh!! *mumbles* 'men.... would lose their heads if they weren't stuck on their necks!!'

As for your Muse... last I saw of her, she was trying on togas at that cute new boutique down the street.... she said to tell you she'll see you later... she's a character, that one... very funny.  We're going to the movies in a bit....

Re: [misfortune teller]
*hand you the "on"*

Here - hold this a second!

I'm not about to argue with you over your sentiments of men and their heads, but we're talking about my immediate future here!  And how exactly can I lose something I never knew I had to begin with?  (Besides the fact that I happen to be a man.)  Now if my immediate future were stuck on my neck, I'd still have it too, so...!

You're hanging out with my Muse?  And they sell togas at botiques now?  A month without television, and I lose all sense of today's fashions - eek!

What movie will you be seeing?  It wouldn't happen to have any lemurs in it, would it?

Re: [misfortune teller]
*chuckles*  I had a hunch.

Hmm...maybe I should go see a movie tonight...

...

Hi again.   Thanks for talking to me this morning.  'Twas nice.  (And the gift keeps on giving now, as I had an opportunity to use the oft-neglected contraction 'twas.)   I hope you're feeling a wee bit better...  (Wee is a fun word, too.  Wow wee!)

Re: [misfortune teller]
It's a very bouncy electronic dance song.  I'm bouncing in my office chair just thinking of the beat.  I love that song!

That, and the caffiene is finally starting to kick in.

Re: [misfortune teller]
when ever i read a fortune cookie.... i add to it " in the bedroom"..... and it always seems to bear more truth that way. see if i had your fortune i would've read it as:

"A thrilling time is in your immediate future..... in the bedroom"

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
*nodnods* Oh yeah.  I've heard that one.  As to more truth...hmm...it just leaves me with even more questions, actually.  For example, is the thrilling time in the bedroom, or is the immediate future in the bedroom?

Hmm...I've got a number of video games in my bedroom -- maybe I'll finish one of them in my immediate future...?

That could be thrilling.

leskc on
Re: [misfortune teller]
oh geez.... video games .... come on......
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Well...it's either that, or cleaning my room...but that doesn't sound like much fun at all.
leskc on
Re: [misfortune teller]
man.... if those are the only 2 fun things you can think of to do in your bedroom...... your gonna need more than a fortune cookie.........lol .... i'm just messin' with ya dude.
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
...

Ok.  Ok.  I can water my plants.  How's that?  *big wink* *chuckle*

First my Muse messes with me and now you start in...sheesh!  (Just kidding.)

leskc on
Re: [misfortune teller]
plants ....... wait what kind of plants.... are they smokeable?(lmao.....)
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
*laughs*  I'm sure somewhere, someone has tried.

Nah.  I'll stick with video games.

leskc on
Re: [misfortune teller]
yeah.... i would pay to watch someone attempt to smoke my mother's in-law tongue (the plant..... not literally).........

Re: [misfortune teller]
LOL Your immediate future is obviously in all the fun you're going to have watching just how many heads you can do in with your post. Count me as No 1.

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
*chuckles*  I suppose that makes me a Bad Person for dragging everyone down in confusion with me, huh?
parity on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Hmm, is there any such thing as a 'bad person'? BTW you inspired me to try my hand at a freestyle poem. Bet you didn't even see it did you? lol

Re: [misfortune teller]
You are funny.   I'm so glad your muse came around.  Damn her for not being there to actually be the one to gaze into your eyes with lingering vulnerability and eagerness to please you by this thoughtful gesture. DAMN her for not being this daydream.
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Hehee.  You probably shouldn't talk about her that way.  She's got a bit of a temper. *big wink*

Thanks for the sentiment, though.  That's very sweet.

Re: [misfortune teller]
Oh.  shoot.  *hiding behind bushes*

Ah.  Whoops, I'm so sorry, lady, really I am.   *shivering in fear*

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Ah, you needn't worry.  She'll just take it out on me.
christineroth on
Re: [misfortune teller]
ooooh *rubbing hands together*  This could be fun to watch!  Whoops.  Sorry.  I'm sorry.  I said, I'm sorry.
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Hehee.  Bruises build character.  At least that's what she tells me.
arhpsdy on
Re: [misfortune teller]
I say no such thing!!!

(that's a message from your muse, she asked me to tell you)

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Sheesh!  Are you still hanging out with her?  I suppose it makes some sense, given how alike we are...in some twisted way, she just can't get enough of me.  (Aw, man, I can't say that with a straight face!)  I'm glad she's found a someone fun to hang out with.  (A mite jealous, but glad.)
arhpsdy on
Re: [misfortune teller]

Re: [misfortune teller]
Glad you got the cookie...
theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
*chuckles*  See!  More of the cuteness.  Sheesh.

So if the cookie's from you, my voluntary muse, perhaps you might explain my so-called fortune?

wendyinchicago on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Well, I cannot disclose such things .... the future is still to come, and I would never presume to reveal such details that the cosmos have in store for you....

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Spoken like a true muse.  Hmph.  Why do you have to be so good at this, hmm? *chuckles*

At least you answered my question about when the future is.  That's a help.  And the cosmos has its own store now?  Man, I'm out of touch! *grins*

wendyinchicago on
Re: [misfortune teller]
In store, or on the internet   www.cosmosyourfuture.net   lol.   They have awesome sales right now, for the end of season.

theracket on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Must be a going out of business sale - their link is already dead. *grins*

Just my fortune!

wendyinchicago on
Re: [misfortune teller]
Nope that's not the fortune...nice try!
