Well I've gone and done it.

What did you do? you may ask.

I'm now listening to podcasts.

What are podcasts? a few of you may mumble...or yell.

A podcast!? I exclaim, shaking my head because you are in the flow, in
the now. That you aren't up on new technology and ideas...In
short, I proclaim, it is like an audio blog!

But I just discovered text blogging! some may whine. I'll
duck as a few beer bottles are tossed my way. Don't worry folks I don't
drink, so I don't need free beer...

Get on with it! Someone suggests..or maybe yells.

Well get with it! I say haughtily. We are half way through the
first decade of the 21st century! Blogging is so....early oughts.

I duck as someone offers me an Arizona Ice Tea bottle (bottom first and
at high velocity) and shake my head. Such is to pity those that
don't know what is happening...

...

Seriously I love podcasting. I bought an ipod recently (4 gig
ipod mini, silver) and started looking around Itunes. See in
itunes you have to pay for music...but you don't have to pay for
Podcasts.

Podcasting is like your own private radio program that you can make in
to anything you want... And I have all the tools and programs I
need to produce and edit one.

Cool eh?

The Arid Zoners' Short history of Podcasting: It started with
former MTV VJ Adam Curry (no really) who wanted to do a internet radio
show. He had an ipod and some ideas; learned a little bit of
programming and needed help. He released his program as 'open
source' and let other, more skilled, programmers take over.

Viola: The Ipodder was born.

Then Dawn and Drew did a show..and now I'm going to be doing one.

"Podcast from the Arid Zone."

Brought to you from a trailer in the middle of the desert...

Look for it soon. I'm sure it'll be semi amusing... If only to me ;-)

If you want any more information on Adam Curry or podcasting in general, visit:

The History of Ipodding and Here for more about ipodding.

Remember: if you have itunes you can download many podcasts for free. Lucky us ;-)

Re: Podcasting
Podcasting is basically homebrew radio shows that use a digital format instead of over the air waves.

They can be anything from pure music to a left or right right arguement against anything that the person doesn't like.

An audio blog :-D

Re: Podcasting
Nice to meet you to! I'm currently in the process of making my first podcast; I should record it tomorrow. I plan on doing several and see how they work out.
If you have itunes they have an excellent podcast section, or you can go to odeo.com or evenpodcastalley.com (or .net, can't remember.)
Try it out; there are thousands of podcasts.

Re: Podcasting
Odds of  'try(ing) it out'...0% as I lack the technological gear.   Very happy to be in the loop conversationally, though.  I can't tell you how nice it is to be informed even though I am not so endowed!  Or can I just use my pc with speakers to hear podcasts?

Re: Podcasting
You can just use your PC to listen to podcasts. if you have windows media or winamp or another digital music player, you can listen to 'em.
They are just files; don't need a special gadget (outside your computer) to listen to 'em.
