Has anyone read The Historian? I'm in the process of reading it with the family (the kids just listen to my voice, of course though they like the Dracula bits) and it's quite interesting. I'm not very much in tune with contemporary literature (mostly because I cannot seem to find the time to read it), but I really am fond of this book. Quite an interesting style and a really great grasp of history. I keep having to look things up because I'm so interested in the history part.

In a way, I've started clinging to my books again. After Ginny was born, I took time away from reading and my favorite types of writing and just started to focus on earning a living. It ruined some things for me. But now, I find myself becoming re-interested in literature and those mysteries of life that literature dregs up from the depths of the self. My magic room is filled with books that haven't been read, and sometimes I go in just to run my hands along the spines. It seems like I've been in a dream for a long time and haven't been able to reach my passion in awhile. I called Louise on my mobile this morning to talk to her about her moving here (there have been some issues with them coming) and she asked me what I was reading. When I told her that the children have been reading Matilda with Harry, she said, I thought you were the bedtime story person. It really struck home for me. What she meant was: this is what you are supposed to love. My children and books coming together in one swoop. So I picked up their reading again tonight.

Story time has taken on an important meaning for me, again.(The children and I read once in the afternoon during nap time, that's our serious book; I read my book out loud for class or pleasure or Harry reads out loud about medicine if he's home. And then at night, we read the children's favorite books, we switch letting them pick their favorites or if they have an assignment for school. Usually, then, the children read out loud if they want to.) I think it's the only thing I've done right by them.
