The nuns are in the news again.   I've said it before and I'll say it again:  Nuns rule... at least those feisty ones from Joliet Illinois that taught me all I need to know about life.  Although I am a recovering Catholic, I don't regret even one of those days of wine and roses in Catholic school.  Here's just a sampling of what they taught me:
  • How to close the snap on my coin purse... quietly
  • How to do everything quietly
  • How to march single file to almost anywhere
  • The National Anthem goes "ba-ner-er yet wave" and not "ba-a-ner yet wave"
  • If a sex act seems humorous, it is still God's plan (e.g. ostriches at the zoo on Catholic schools day)
  • Don't believe everything priests tell you
  • Darwin and God can coexist
  • Smoking will stunt your growth
  • Sticks and stones may break my bones, but rulers hurt more
  • Your skirt should be long enough to touch the floor if you kneel
  • Before we laugh at a foreign accent, we should picture ourselves in their country
  • Not to pick my nose
  • Don't fight on the playground... that's what alleys are for
  • Sex isn't called "the marital embrace" for nothing
  • We should hate the crime but love the criminal
  • We should help the poor
  • And my personal favorite:  God will forgive ANYTHING

That "last one" is the very "WORST" of all! To teach that "God will forgive "ANYTHING" gives those with no "Compassion" the "Courage to commit the worst "Atrocities!" And they do! However, the "Hidious Insanity" of the Catholic schools, and others who teach this sort of "Dangerous" drivel, will in God's time, be repaid, by the very people it mislead... if there "IS" any "JUSTICE" in the world! (I think that was a "good post" Shade.) That last part just "Totally set me off!" It is the "WORST" that "ORGANIZED RELIGION" does!

Sorry, I forgot... still using my """ a lot! It is a hard habit to break, but I am working on it when I am "just blogging about ordinary things." It's a start! Lol!

And my daughter said that the Nuns at her school have taught her this so far:

  • Not to be afraid to try anything in a dress.  Even ridding that bike with the big front wheel!
  • If your going to argue with a boy, make sure you have all your facts straight so when he has no answers you will win every time.
  • Just because the Nuns are old doesn't meant they can't get down with their bad selves on a bus coming home from a school field trip.
  • Treat your books with respect because if you need to find answers nobody is willing to give you, your books will give you the answers!

And as my kids go through Catholic school, I am sure Coltin will add to the list and DeLaney will add more!

They sound like the nuns who taught me. Best of all they taught me to think for myself ...even though it meant I thought myself right out of the Church.

Re: All I really need to know I learned in Catholic school
Oh I made these nuns cry at the beginning of the year  We are out and out Pagan and my kids are being raised both Catholic and in my Spirituality and the nuns tried to tell me they couldn't go through first communion because they wouldn't understand the Trinity.  So me being me with the new priest standing right there goes, well I think they understand teh trinity just fine want them to explain it to you?  Then DeLaney goes into the whole explaination of the Trinity using the Goddesses and the Gods and then I added to it with the Celtic Duil and Coltin goes isn't it the same with the Christian God?

The Priest started laughing and the nun was crying!  Needless to say they went through First Communion and now are very happy to have that out of the way.  The Nuns don't ask them a lot of questions during Religious classes but the Priest gets them right in the discussion so the kids can hear different view points!
