Yeah, this was definitely a nice "apology", if you will, for his defense of DOMA last week after that appeal from the gay couple against Prop 8. It is a nice step, and we look forward to the expansion of more rights!
Hopefully in 5-10 years none of this will be an issue anymore. Every state and government institute will treat all marriages and civil unions the same whether gay or not.
Another step in the right direction with this memorandum. Like to see "don't ask, don't tell" get resolved too at some point. Maybe a bill can get taken up next year and work it's way through into law. Which I think is what the Obama adminstration has in mind instead of going through the supreme court.
