When i was little, around three or four, the family dentist was the man who beat my mother for valedictorian in high school. He had diabetes, however, and his vision got bad enough that he could no longer practice, but that happened after we moved out of the area. As I wouldn't allow any other dentist near me without there being profuse bloodshed, I haven't been to one since, save the mandatory dental hygienist visits in public schools.

If I ever get back to my "small town in middle America" romance, I'll HAVE to come find you to interview you. You have such a good view from there.
That's because we still kill our own food.
Once you separate people from that which keeps them alive, it's all down hill.
Suburban and urban life is so... synthetic.

poor cartoon ranger!!
but its real good he has nice teeth.
and be thankful that he didnt bite the dentist. haha
Tsh- when I was a kid, we didn't have any high-falutin' flat-screen tvs in the waiting room showing anything remotely interesting! All we got was an old 6 inch black and white that showed a looped tape of dental adverts, AND WE LIKED IT!
For some reason, that dentist always gave out candy after the visit. To everyone

LOL you had TV? We had Highlights magazines and blue vinyl chairs.
No TV. But the receptionists were sweet. Oh, and no candy, but mine gave us erasers.

Well, I'm looking at it from a bit of a different POV, but I'd like to offer some congratulations to both Cartoon Ranger and his mom for getting through such a difficult situation and for perservering through when many would have "given up and gone home."
Thank you. lol Yeah, I didn't wish to just go home. Though...I will confess the idea dashed across my brain. But then I thought...chick, if you bail now, you'll just have to do it again and it'll be worse.
