The family is here.  Safe and sound, if not 100% healthy.  (My sister-in-law, AvonLady, apparently has the 'flu!) The cousins have rough-housed and made noise ("I need quiet time, Mommy," Builder informed me) and now they are back down the street in the rental house owned by The Dynamo.  It is quiet, here.

At last, I am smiling.  For real.  :)  I'm exhausted after a very truncated night's sleep, but I am listening to the Miser Brother's Christmas on the television, listening to Builder play with his new laptop computer (a toy one from Target that he's wanted for months) and smelling the cookies The Dynamo brought down for all of us to enjoy over the holiday.

I am not in general a big proponent of the King James Bible, I confess. But to my lyrical ear, some verses just sound better in Elizabethan English than in my own, 21st Century version.  I am reminded of the verse in the book of Isaiah the Prophet, chapter nine, verse six:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
KJV

To me, a child has come.  To me, he was given.  The government -- the authority of the world and of my own governing activities -- is under his eye and a burden he is willing to bear.  He is indeed provoking wonder in me. He does indeed counsel me in my days.  He is GOD, the great and almighty.  He is my heavenly father.

And he is the prince...the great flower and heir and promise...of PEACE.

Tonight, after the ups and downs of the last few days, I am reminded of all these things, and I give thanks.  My Christmas, after all, is indeed a merry one.

I hope that you and your family, wherever you are, may enjoy peace of spirit if not of circumstances.

Merry Christmas.

Thanks.  I will be at the airport at 4am so I'm not sure how peaceful it will be.

Oh shells, right! I thought that was for New Years. Woops!

I hope that your travels are mellow, though.  Considering that most folks are doing all that today.

I always prefer the old language for hymns and scripture.

Merry Christmas, Sandyquill, to you and your tribe.

Hey Sis,
Just had to contact a friend I couldn't find in e-mail, so I logged on for the first time in ages. Thought I'd drop in and say Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Love,
Cathian

Re: Sleep in heavenly peace...
Thank you for the greetings, Sandi. May the Lord richly bless and keep you and yours and heal your sis in law speedily!

My daughter arrived safely, the food is cooked and we are just lazing around a bit before the big lunch.

King James is what I teethed on, so it is the only one that sounds authentic to me...and yes, I also love the poetic, King James' English way it was written!  I do, however, sometimes like and easier one to read through the Bible in a year.

I can just imagine Builder sitting, enjoying the quiet time at last, playing with his computer!

Glad you are happy.

That passage in Isaiah is one of my faves.

I am so glad your daughter arrived safely!  Yay!

I teethed on the KJV, too. lol But I found that I prefer, these days, the Holman Christian Standard, with the latest archaeological stuff and all that, for my studying.  Mine's even got pictures! <laughing>

Right now, "the fam" is on the way back from playing tourist all afternoon. The boys and I have stayed home, cleaning up from a fabulous lunch, and enjoying the quiet. For both my guys, alone time is a NEED, not a want. <smile>

I hope your day has brought you many smiles and reasons to celebrate, Bonnie!  God bless you and all of yours!

Re: Sleep in heavenly peace...
I don't know that I have seen that version of the Bible, but it does sound interesting!

We have had a lovely, lazy and then precarious day, from which the Lord spared us.  You will be proud of me, when I say that, because I had only slept five hours yesterday, and cooking all afternoon into the evening, I was exhausted and fell into bed at nine thirty, and got up at 8 (I know it was still a lot of sleep, but hey, at the right time of night...? ) We had a lazy day because all of the prep was done. But the Pastor had invited us to come to games and fellowship at their home around five. But to make a long story short, we left when we saw that it had been snowing heavily for some time.(We were at the back in the kitchen and they were in the basement playing pool, so they didn't see it start) but it was a very hair raising trip.  We got lost once and could  hardly see in front of our faces. The usually thirty five minute trip took well over an hour, but thank the Lord, we did arrive home safely...whew!  So again, he protected us, and all is well.

Especially, it is well with my soul.

Love and hugs to you
bonnie
