So say you're living in Iran, 5,200 years ago. You're a potter.  You're decorating your finished product. A bowl.  This is all perfectly normal.

But someone was decidedly amazing. Some potter had the fabulous idea that if he made a goat in different stages of jumping from one plant stalk to another, he could see the goat actually JUMP if he spun his bowl.

And so he did.  You can see more about this first known animation --> here.  Blows me away. :)

Re: One small leap for a painted goat, one giant leap of the mind.
Can you imagine the conversation after creating this?

"But Achmed, a jumping goat? I don't get it"

"Soresan, if you spin the bowel you will see."

"Achmed, it'll never catch on.  If we want to see a goat jump we can just go watch a goat jump! Sometimes I wish you never purchased my sister from our father..."

"Soresan, we loved each other before that.  And she loves the goat."

"I bet your children grow up to befriend those weird hebrew people..."

I just imagine the kids with big eyes.  "Mama! Spin the bowl again!"

So say you're living in the land of Blog, the year is 2008. You're a blogger (Sandi).  You're writing a very interesting entry for us all to read.  This is all perfectly normal.

But someone was decidedly amazed. Some blogger had the fabulous idea that if he/she made a comment, you'd respond in different ways of talking from one person  to another, he/she could see the comments if they actually made one.

And so they did.

Forgive me. LOL

Dateline:   Florida

Today in South Florida, a woman was seen laughing when no one was in the room. She was not on the phone, nor was anyone in the house.  Witnesses said she was chuckling at a white rectangle perched upon her desk near a painting of a nearly naked Don Quixote.

Investigation into this odd behavior revealed a Blog. A strange social networking configuration that she seemed strangely involved with -- so much so that she actually laughed out loud.

Our staff psychologists have recommended that she continue her interactions with this form of communication, since it does provide her with healthy amusement and the ability to meet people from far away.  Which is good, as the woman in question is a hermit.

See here is what I take out of all of this:

You have a picture of naked Don Quixote in your house?

...that disturbs me for some reason.

Re: One small leap for a painted goat, one giant leap of the mind.
He's not naked.    I'll have to see if I can find the link. It's a fairy-tale painting my mother did when I was maybe nine or so.  It's really quite lovely.

Ah, here it is. --> click!

he's as naked as david was when he danced in front of the arc

which reminds me of an old punk rock song by lust control...man I wonder if i can find that album somewhere.

Re: One small leap for a painted goat, one giant leap of the mind.
The "laughing at the flat rectangle on a shelf" phenomenon, eh?

Ja, I see. So lie down there, on the sofa.  And tell me about your first dog.

LOL

*sigh* Well Doc, my first dog bit me while I was trying to dance with her.  I threatened to open the gate and let her out for good, but I just couldn't do it....

Your mum was a talented woman, and I agree about the entertainment for a hermit!

I just went and filled out apps for a job today and it was one of the most traumatic things I have done for a while....my blood pressure increased dramatically and my heart was palpitating...i only want to stay at home...please, God?

sandyquill on
Re: One small leap for a painted goat, one giant leap of the mind.
It IS scary to fill out job apps! Yikes!  I can imagine how stressful it was. Staying home feels so right!   I hope you can find something that is not too far afield for you.

And thank you. I'll pass that along to Mums. She's wonderful.

Re: One small leap for a painted goat, one giant leap of the mind.
It's having to put down the truth of my sad past , when I was battling with bipolar I did not even know (or i did but everyone thought it stupid of me to say...) and making so many mistakes....I can't say on the aps that "i lost that job because..." etc.  So, it's not the work, but the trying to get it that is the stress factor.

Bonnie...that is when you just put on the line..."left for personal reasons". You do NOT have to put every reason in exacting detail.
