True. There is no substitute for experience.
Maybe that was Solomon's problem--lots of wisdom, no experience.

I believe that was EXACTLY his problem. His wisdom, gifted from God, was won without effort. So though he knew what to do, he didn't always know WHY. Does that make sense?
Yes. He certainly didn't have the love and heart for God that his father did. So perhaps it was a combination of no effort/experience and no love for God--which is an interesting caution for us Christians who grow up in affluent nations.
The truth is, Socrates, that these regrets, and also the complaints about relations, are to be attributed to the same cause, which is not old age, but men's characters and tempers; for he who is of a calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition youth and age are equally a burden.
Wisdom is something we who are older, hold on to dearly and wouldn't trade it in for 'youth' any day. Though give me my wisdom and youth and I will be a supernatural hero! Aaahhh to only dream....well ok enough dreaming, I need my agility back ~ working out and eating right helps right? Reality check: 'I am all things to Christ who strengthens me' ~ I am a supernatural warrior! Now I can be at peace and hang out at the TV while I eat my Italian Hoagie ~ I can 'war' at any given notice later.
