I don't think my bike likes me.  Last night was the 2nd time it tried to kill me. The first in when it tried to light me on fire, last night it tried to wreck me.  I hate the fact that in Nebraska they gravel the intersections but never sweep it up for the summer.  I was out riding with some friends at night, in Lincoln, and took a right turn at an intersection and the rear tire kicked out sending the bike sideways, the front end got crossed and I somehow put my right foot down fast enough to stop it, then the handle bars turned  violently and the bike flipped over to the left, and somehow I put my left foot down, pushed up and regained control. My Softail Springer is a lot harder to regain control than my Suzuki RF900R sport bike.  It scared the shit out me.  I drove home really slow after that.  The adrenaline was still going for hours after that.  My one thought during that split intatnt was "I'm not dying today." Going to watch those intersections more carefully from now on.

Yeah, I wear a helmet.  It's required by Nebraska state law.  I would wear one regardless though.

Here in WI it isn't so very few people wear them. People cling to the false "freedom" it supposedly takes away.

Yep, Gravel is a bikers worst enemy!

My cousin lost it on a turn with his Suzuki 1100 thanks to gravel... they both survived, thankfully.

About the only thing worse are those open-grate metal bridges in rain or snow - done both!

Black ice is especially scary.  I used to ride my Suzuki almost rear round when I first got it.  I rode one winter afternoon that was warm, except there was a spot where some trees blocked the sun on a rode near my place.  The rest of the road was dry, except for a 50 foot section of road that was all black ice.  I didn't see it untill I was upon it. I remember putting both feet down to keep the rear end from fish tailing.  I don't ride when it gets cold anymore though.  Luckily I've never encountered an open-grate bridge yet.

I've never hit black ice on the bike, but did once in the car... talk about a wake up call!

In this gawd-forsaken state (WI) we can and have had snow from October to through mid-May... but then we can have 60's-70's in "Winter"... it's enough to drive one just a tad more nuts than usual.
