Let me reiterate that the singing of the Hippo Song is not that important to me in and of itself, but it did provide a useful example of how simple things we camp staff do, sometimes just in the course of our duties, can be misunderstood and leave a negative impression in the mind of the public and risk damaging the ministry.
We wish they would bring it to us to discuss, but how often do we go back to a store or something and really try to get the whole story on why we weren't served well?
And again it's very likely that Paul is right that it was simply a one-time refusal. If an explanation was given, I guess it wasn't understood. Campers (and staff) do misunderstand from time to time.

I think we all know now that in that initial mtg (the one with the empty file folder) I should simply have answered their question (if asked) "That is not a reasonable request of me. Please, give me your proposed terms for the Leave. I will get back to you within a reasonable amount of time." and they would have been well-advised to say "Here are our terms. We recommend that you review them with a lawyer."
Sounds cold, but it is respectful of the power imbalance present. Even in Christian ministry, if someone has power over your ability to feed, clothe and house yourself, Ontario Labour Law has something to say about it. And, as Christians, we are to be concerned about the "least of these" in all relationships, even if the law doesn't require it. We should not resent people seeking professional help esp. if they are the weaker party.
