Just a quickie!
Alan and I left Saturday about noonish, following Dale up to the lake cabin for the weekend. Alan stayed until Sunday evening, and I got to stay until Tuesday morning. Suffice to say we had a blast, I got lots of sun on the boat, and it was a very nice break for both of us.
But man, how the garden had grown while I was gone! When I got home, I answered emails and phone messages, did some online shopping for goat collars and bells, a new fence tester (cuz I can't find my good one *grumble) muzzle inserts to keep the horses from exploding, and a trimmer comb so Alan's beard won't grow down to his waist *grin*
Then I headed for the garden. I moved a couple sprinklers to better cover the lower garden/orchard. I got out a paint roller and the RoundUp, and mopped the worst of the crab grass around the peas and beans (we'll see if that works... I don't want to get over-spray on anything!) and started in weeding.
I got both of the asparagus beds weeded. Man that was a bitch! Crab grass sucks! Alan came home, and we ate after I had finished the first bed, and he helped me with the second bed. I don't know why, but I love it when he and I spend part of the evening pulling weeds together.
We also weeded the artichokes. I have lots of them, and need to find somewhere to transplant half of them to. I picked and ate a few strawberries, and picked some radishes for dinner too. Our evening ended quietly, falling asleep to a movie before going to bed.
Today I cleaned house and did laundry before heading back out to the garden. When I picked radishes last night, I discovered that the heat has been too much for them. The have bolted, and are mostly woody and not really fit to eat.
I just got through pulling them all out and feeding them to the chickens. Now I'm going to fill that row with the volunteer tomatillos I have discovered. That's awesome, because I couldn't find seeds for them, and Alan loves them.
And the weeding will continue, interrupted by dinner.
