also, Hoffman is quite the scary looking dude. very ugly.
The thing is, that this was a victory of sorts for conservatives. And it serves as a notification for the Republican party and people like Newt.
We are not interested in liberals, even if they are called republicans. conservatives don't want these fake conservatives.
It is better to have a real democrat win then a fake republican.
And perhaps the Republican party will think twice about putting in someone like that.
The Republicans are swine. They think they can fool us and pretend to be conservative. They aren't.
People like John McCain or Newt aren't. not anymore. We want someone who shares our fiscal values, at least. Not someone that looks like a conservative but is really a liberal.
I'm glad Owens won. Better than Scozzafava. Because that would've sent the wrong message to the party.
I think it's interesting that... Scozzafava would handily have won, but the Teabaggers had to purge themselves... and lose the seat. Seems like a losing strategy. You know, going hard right, and alienating the moderates.
here's the thing. Conservatives didn't care if Scozzafava was going to win. She was just as much a democrat, and she already had stated that she would have voted for some of the more progressive programs.
As the Wall St Journal said about her, "Democrats want to portray this race as a familiar moderate-conservative GOP split, but the real issue is why Ms. Scozzafava is a Republican at all. She has voted for so many tax increases that the Democrat is attacking her as a tax raiser. She supported the Obama stimulus, and she favors “card check” to make union organizing easier, or at least she did until a recent flip-flop.She has run more than once on the line of the Working Families Party, which is aligned with Acorn. Her voting record in Albany puts her to the left of nearly half of the Democrats in the assembly. "
So, if she won...it would have been the same.
However, now...the Republican Party in NY and elsewhere needs to know that voters won't just vote for someone because they say we so. Voters aren't going to vote just by party line and voters will think for themselves.
This was a big message sent. The loss to a Democrat vs Republican was no loss in this area.
The fact that the Republican party thought they could stick anyone in there and just pin an (R) on her to get elected turned out to be wrong.
this is a good thing for people like you and me.
Maybe the next time they pick people for us to vote on, they will reflect actual values...instead of just assuming we are just lemmings.
nope. the northeastern conservative is actually on the rise...it had been dead and buried for a long time.
IF the party would stop pushing fake republicans like scozzafava or bloomberg then maybe they have a chance.
So, what other raises have the rare NorthEastern Conservative participated in a race? And did they fuck up like Hoffman by alienating so many people with their rude douchebaggery ways?
the hoffman-owens-scozzafava race was an odd one.
1- the race didn't just happen but occured because the incumbant left.
2- the parties themselves picked the candidates. The candidates did choose to run.
3- there were no primaries. In a primary situation, it is probable that hoffman would've beaten scozzafava...eliminating the last minute squabbles.
4-owens didn't have to deal with a primary or people from his own party putting him down.
the fact that a no-name candidate (who wasn't even from the district!) with little funding at first from a third party could come and kick the living shit out of the Republican party candidate in such a short time is key.
If hoffman lost, then he lost. He may have been a rude dick but maybe that's why he lost and it wasn't because he was a conservative.
On Long Island, many republicans made hugh strides in what has become a Blue region.
Spin it all you want Toot. The off year election was not a great thing for conservatives and/or republicans. A district that has kept Democrats off its representation list since 1870 now is sending Owens to the House... a Progressive Democrat. Will the district be gerry mandered out in 2010? Sure, but NY is losing that house seat anyway. I see only one Republican in all of New York State. You know, representing.
unfortunately i can't include links anymore on mindsay. my work ISP won't let me.
what you again fail to realize that a progressive democrat and a progressive republican is still the same.
you and everyone else should be happy.
this was a warning shot to everyone at the Democrat Party HQ or Republican Party HQ that putting someone in behind closed doors ain't gonna work anymore. (at least that's what i hope they think about).
We are all tired of politics as usual. And sure they are gonna win but we can still fight them.
IN NYC the Mayor and the City council overrode the people's rights to get the Mayor re-elected. The people voted for term limits and the Mayor and the city council ignored them and overrode it. The people, who for the most part would've normally brought Bloomberg back easily, gave him a hard time because they do not like being ignored.
Democrats, Republicans...the Parties have ignored the people. too long. we are tired of it.
Ramming through the health care bill tomorrow will really piss people off. Conservatives HATE it...Liberals don't think it goes far enough.
It's like luke warm unsweeted Iced Tea....it tastes like piss and no one likes it.
we are mad.
we are all angry.
and congress and politicians suck.
Once again... "Democratic Party" is used to show ownership. Democrat is singular, Democratic is possessive. I'm not being a word Nazi- conservatives have a long history of linguistically marring the name of their opponents.
Bloomberg was a Republican, before he went Indy.
Progressives are all about primaries. But off year elections have their own stipulations in terms of candidate choices.
Ramming through the health care bill tomorrow will really piss people off.
The only people pissed off will be corporate insurance and their idiot drones. Again, here's the polls on Obama and reform. Notice the positive, and majority trend. The only people working that talking point are corporate dittoheads listening to Hannity and Co. It bears little relation to reality.
People gave low marks when the reform effort stagnated or was in danger of losing the public option (and people want it to cover MORE people instead of the 2% it will cover now).

Actually you are being a word jerk. You knew what i meant. This is not an essay that i'm reading in front of the class, or a speech i'm making in front of the Board of Directors.
Bloomberg was a Democrat. He only became a republican to run for mayor of NYC since Mark Green was running on the democratIC ticket. Bloomberg would have lost if not for Sept 11th, and Rudy's sudden influence.
Bloomberg is a RINO.

sorry, as you know i can't include links because of a firewall at work.
People are not happy about this law.
And the fact that this was pushed through without allowing people to read it (as was promised) shows that they knew that it was now or never...that once people read it...they'd reject it.
we are doing all of this for 2%?? How dumb is this?
it's another gov't entitlement and another gov't bureaucracy that will fail.
Toot- the law was on Thomas for 10 days prior to the people saying they hadn't had time to read it. 2,000 pages / 10 days = 200 pages a day, skimming.
Thanks for the Poll. Hadn't seen that one yet.
Considering that Democrats had to start with a compromise, its no wonder that support for the specific legislation is falling off. It's becoming a raw deal as Conservatives fuck it up for their corporate masters.
And Democrat and Democratic Party is not hard. Stop being a jerk when using an opponent's name. Stop maligning the name. The problem is endemic to conservatives; if you watch Hannity, Limbaugh or Fox News in general, you'll pick up their language habits. Says more about you than anything else.

200 pages a day? skimming?
first of all....it's extremelly difficult to understand the language since it's not in plain english. And then there are references. I read almost 500 and i was so lost. and there are loopholes, etc.
10 days to read 2000 pages is impossible. Imagine if your health plan at work came with 2000 pages and they said read this and sign in 10 days.
not possible.
i think most people still work. we are busy making revenue for the gov't to pay for their programs. i don't even have time to post!
yep...no special interests on the DemocratIC side. No AARP, no AMA, no SEIU, no ACORN....non of that. No interest in the Gov't Corporation to gain power.
How am i maligning the name if I say Democrat instead of Democratic? First off, they call THEMSELVES "Democrat". I make an honest mistake, so stop obsessing with stupid stuff.
It does say alot about me. It says i call them what they call themselves.
I never call them nasty things OR generalize all of them.
But if conservatives do it, then of course liberals could NEVER do it.

Toot- that 10 days online before people complained that no one saw it was over a month ago!
Toot- have I ever disparaged Republicans on purpose to you when addressing you? I am a member of the Democratic Party of Nebraska. I've told you this many times- please get the name right. I don't fault you personally for the disparagement. Again, you're using a strawman if you think I'm claiming ALL liberals do not do the same. But if you watch television, you never see elected Democrats doing such things, but you see elected Republicans doing it all the time.
Chimpenfuhrer is rather creative. Never saw that one. Or RlPigs. Or Repukes. Or Conbots. Or any of the Cons.

how could be over a month ago when it only came out on the night of november 5th and was voted on the night of november 14th. so it was 9 days, and really it didn't appear until 8 days before when most of us found out about it.
so there was no 10 days ... no month
you have disparaged republicans on purpose plenty of times. dozens. hundreds. you may not change the name but the word fucking appears often.
so you are a member of a party. i'm sure they do a lot for you because you are a member. Free health care?
Hm? I've been a member of a political party since I turned 18. I've participated in every single primary and local/state/federal election.
And yes, I've used adjectives for Republicans, with cuase. For instance, Tom Coburn (R-Ok) has a hold on a veterans benefit increase package. It's all ready to go. But Fucking Tom Coburn of King Shit Hill has it on hold because he wants the money to come from the stimulus package instead of the Pentagon's budget. Fucking Republicans.

so, big whoop. you've voted every year and in every chance.
that doesn't make you better than everyone especially if you just vote by the party line.
the question is...what have the DemocratIC party ever done for you?
Or Jews?
Or Blacks?
Or anyone totally committed to them?
btw, here's an article that came out today which was a conversation we had a few threads ago
boston.com/business/articles/2009/11/11/stimulus_fund_job_benefits_exaggerated_review_finds/
an interesting story- sounds like a number of businesses are scamming the federal government for money. Imagine that.
scamming, or pressured as so many said, or didn't understand the forms.
but the gov't has a responsibility to go through this to see that this information is correct before pronouncing success.
Toot- why are you obsessed with this? Did the Republican or Conservative Party give you a free Bible or something? Maybe a Sham-Wow? Maybe people join political parties because they support the majority of the Party Planks (ie, gun control, protecting the rights of women, regulating private monopolies, affirmative action, maintaining the Constitution, etc.) I'm a Democrat because this is the party that most closely resembles the teachings of Jesus Christ; caring for your neighbor and striving for a more equitable society. My party membership is deeply tied to my faith. Give over, move on, I'm not self disclosing any more to you.
Toot- why are you obsessed with this? Did the Republican or Conservative Party give you a free Bible or something?
I wouldn't read that Bible.
Maybe a Sham-Wow?
That would actually be pretty funny. Get a free Sham-Wow and a motorized scooter free with every party registration. Tell your friends and receive 2 more sham-wows. Limited Time Offer.
Maybe people join political parties because they support the majority of the Party Planks
- (ie, gun control, - also known as controlling the population from defending themselves (btw...i approve of the ban on many types of weapons)
- protecting the rights of women, (so Conservatives don't think Women should have rights?)
- regulating private monopolies - like what?
- affirmative action, - also known as forcing people to take or hire people because of their ethnicity, since according to liberals people of different races are not equal. there was a time and place for affirmative action. That time is more than over.
- maintaining the Constitution, - or just changing it.
- I'm a Democrat because this is the party that most closely resembles the teachings of Jesus Christ; caring for your neighbor and striving for a more equitable society. Yep, keep people poor and meek. that's the democratIC way. Don't be self-reliant. Let others take care of you. Do unto others because you are more successful.
- My party membership is deeply tied to my faith. Give over, move on, I'm not self disclosing any more to you.
You haven't self-disclosed anything.
I'm a republican because i used to be a democrat. That's the party. I know that it is a private monopoly. Like the democratIC party.
They are in it for themselves. To take care of each other. And the politicians are in it too... for themselves and their party.
people may go into federal politics for good reasons but that changes 10 minutes into it.
