I hate the same old music. I hate being bombarded by "BUY BUY BUY." I hate that we can't say Merry Christmas in case we offend anyone and that most Christmas cards I have gotten are full of snow and Christmas trees (inanimate objects oddly enough). My favorite one is the Madonna and Child that my grandmother sent to me.

Anddddd I hate genocide and war. Blah, this is going to sound cheesy, but so much money is wasted on giving things to people that don't want or need them. There are essential gifts to give and then consider the ppl in Darfur: www.unicefusa.org

I read an article on Mia Farrow's support for this country (about 2 wks. ago) and clicked the link and was very frustrated, because there was the option to donate in pounds and I couldn't find the correct US site and my normal charity didn't have a Darfur fund.

Anyway, give what you can if you can. I think the USA is overindulgent and there are lots of greedy people here splurging on things when people are dying. I felt guilty last night depositing a check at my bank, having a car, locking it because of my ipod and DVDs inside.

Okay, just sharing. Consider spending a portion of your holiday budget to those in need.

Re: Overwhelmed by Commercialism
Yeah but if you think about the slaves at christmas it ruins the whole thing.  It would be much harder to appreciate the gifts and toys if you had to think about the children working 14 hour shifts on Christmas making them.

Aw come on now... think of all the children in china
making all the toys for all the good little boys and girls here
 wheres that holiday spirit
think of the children for christ's sakes
with there busy hands slaving away
to make all those lead based toys!
and you thought your job sucked?!

Re: Overwhelmed by Commercialism
Well so am I,  to many people are to busy buying crap for kids that they really don't need
rather than giving the most precious gift of there time to them
like reading a book to them at night and encouraging them to read along with the story
really do you remember what you got for christmas last year
or try this do you remember their time your folks taken you someplace special,....
a walk in a park and the like, three, five, ten years ago?
the most valuable give you can give anyone is you time  and to child it is priceless
insofar as your writings about war  until we learn  that this planet were are on has to be shared with all
no one is better than another.... we  will always be at war...
for how smart we claim to be in all reality we are quite stupid
we should be ashamed of ourselves for not learning  the simple thing back in kindergarten
that is to work and play well  with others  wishing you enough. your pal Mike

it's easy to get bogged down in the reality of the season and feel the joy slip away.  *pets you*
