The links sent out are valid MySpace links.

They will in no way harm your PC and are simply a 'PA Stunt' to get people to join MySpace. Using the link will simply allow you to register with MySpace and automatically fill in your email.

 

What people should be looking out for is if the link is 'forged' and when you put your mouse over it, it displays a different address to the actual text. This could me malicious.

For instance, if you put your mouse over that link and it read:

http://myspace.freewebs.com

You would know this email was malicious and the link bluffed.

 

However, the emails currently circling are genuine and are simply for publicity.

So, if you aint interested in joining myspace, delete the email and/or add to your blocked senders list.

I get the same thing from eBay - saying that I ordered something and it's really just a promo to get me to see the item if I'm really interested in it otherwise - it's all in the sites that a person goes to - the site will find cookies on your PC that link you to your email addy and then crossreference that list with people that are on your mailing address - this is how spammers make their money - from sending out emails to as many people as possible - whether they open the mail or not - this is another contraversial issue that the government refuses to deal with - but yeah - that's why I always try to manage to keep my system clean of spyware and cookies and stuff to alleviate that possibility - also - I believe norton has an antispam program that works with your yahoo account and I think mcafee has one for the hotmail program as well - the yahoo one actually creates an antispam folder that it'll automatically filter at your discretion - its a pretty cool program - the mcafee one pretty much does the same thing but I forget if it's as effective - hopefully this might help! I know ) The government refuses to do anything about it though because apparently they're more pleased with the fact that it could draw more business to the economy (because they're mostly used to for advertisements of commercial items - and the possibility of people buying the items that are spammed to peoples email regardless of how their addresses are found - so they refuse to do anything about it because it doesn't concern them personally so ) Anyways - I know it sucks....I g2g2 work though hun - ttyl! That's the thing though - the gov't isn't doing anything about the spam - I know it's hard for a person to keep from getting spammed - but the Antispam programs made by Mcafee and Symantec are rather effective I was actually just reading an article in PC world (this months issue) about this very issue and they even show the reader the process of a spam mailing goes through in order to be distributed anonymously to senders - and the REALLY messed up thing is that people are making ALOT of money just by sending the stuff in the first place! ::Sigh:: what is this world coming to....but I'll definately send ya the 411 about it if you're interested Later hun!

Well like I said, I don't want the fricking government doing a damned thing "For Me" because every time they do they actually wind up doing something "To Me". The less you get from the government, the better off you will be. ♥ Wendy

This reminds me of a philsophical term I remember either saying myself or hearing somewhere in life - the government is best known for taking something that works and making it worse - if it ain't broken - they try to fix it anyways and the aftermath isn't usually pretty ) I personally see it as this - all of the people in the government are relatively old farts (or they're on their way to becoming one) and so they feel that as long as they have whatever power they're given they're going to do whatever they feel like doing regardless of what 'we the people' think about it - because in the end - most likely - since the ideas they usually have already benefit the rich - and they rather rich themselves - it isn't going to really phase them in their lifetime - and eventually they'll end up retiring and dying anyways so whether their ideas be good or bad - to be able to leave a 'gift' for future generations (whether it be a new law or whatever) they'll (in their own hearts) feel that they'll be remembered one way or another as the person that left that 'gift' - I mean all and all - we all know that the people that work for the government are usually not right in their own minds and yet we're still @ their mercy - it's like being a child forced to live in a broken home with an abusive parent or guardian - in our own minds we know that we're in danger of the very thing that is supposed to protect us - but yet we're helpless to being able to really do anything about the actions that are being taken - it's like we're being raped in our own damn country! We're prisoners of our own society...and I guess until we decide to move to another country and live there instead (I hear Denmark is the #1 happiest country in the world according to a recent survey) - I guess this is what we're given to deal with - and I couldn't agree with you more Wendy on that statement - the less I'm given the better off I am - cause in reality - it really is 'everyone for themselves' because no matter how many laws are made to restrict people from doing whatever - there'll always be a rebel in every crowd Thanks again for the reply hun! Well, the federal government NEVER does a damned thing for the citizens unless they have some hellacious strings attached.
