No sarcasm. I agree with the quotation. Selflessness, unselfishness, though impossible fully to realize except by gods and saints like Jesus and Buddha, is the aspiration, the highest ideal, of human conduct in all of the great world religions. In the concept of the hero, the very same aspiration is the ideal also in secular life -- service, personal risk, and sacrifice for others.
