Last month, i attended an absolutely marvelous event at IIT Bombay. This was a 2-day workshop on Scilab . Scilab is the free-software-open-source challenge to the expensive Matlab and friends. This is just the kind of solution which India needs. Pity that there was no one from my own college or from JNTU (thank God, they did not have to cast their pearls before s....s). It was an experience of a lifetime, meeting the developers of Scilab from INRIA, France (Partha did his post-dotoral resaerch there). Now Partha will create a CDROM based e-book, to teach graph theory, using the Metanet toolbox of Scilab. Graph theory is an important component of "discrete mathematics", which Partha teaches. Graph theory is a very important tool for computer scientists. the ebook will be an extension and sequel to my mathematics gurukul on the web.
