Dear Whatever readers read my Blog,

This being my first blog, I feel the need to attack that which I feel is a growing hipocrasy in america and the world.

Racism.  What is racism?

Racism is a belief or ideology that race accounts for differences in human character or ability, often manifested in a belief that a particular race is superior to others.

Racial prejudice refers to pre-formed notion of individuals based on their perceived racial heritage. It involves hasty generalizations about members of a group based on the perceived characteristics of one or more members of the group. Generalizations include beliefs that every member of a group has the same personality traits, interests, language, culture, ideas, norms and attitudes.

I will not attack Imus, stupid as his joke may have been.  He has been slammed enough on here.  I will however mention  Afirmative Action,  "History Months", and my own personal opinions.  Take from this what you will. But before responding I ask that you examine your response, your beliefs, and take a good look at yourself in the mirror.

Afirmative Action, one of the biggest mistakes in American History.  Why do I say that you ask?  I say it because in of itself it perpetuates the belieft that there are different races.  The last time I checked, we were all members of the same species.  By seperating ourselves by the color of our skin, our religion, or our sexual preference we open ourselves up to hate and ignorance.

History Months, by their very nature are racist.  I find the very exsistance of "Black History Month" and others to be offensive.  Why?  Because it perpetuates the belief that we are different.  Going through high school, 5 years ago.  I learned about the egyptions, the Romans, the Chinese, and then we have Black History Month.  To me, it's stupidity.  Instead of months exsisting for the purpose of seperating us, we should have a Human History Month.  To teach that we are all the same, and that there is no difference.

But alas, I fear it is not to be.

I am sure people will argue and complain.  I find most amusing when people argue that something is racist by being racist.  IF your argument includes refering to your opponent as "white" and yourself or a group of people as "black"...You have proven my point.

Arguing that someone is an "Ignorant White Person" as I have seen on another blog..Does nothing but show that you are a racist.  You hold a bias against someone else's opinion, intelligence and very person because of the color of their skin.  Your very argument at that point is disgusting.  I have heard people argue that all the months but black history month are white people's history.  That statement is racist.  period.  Not to mention that even in the context in which you mean it is inaccurate.  Romans were not "white", though they were highly intelligent human beings with a very advanced culture.  Are you refering to the Egyptions as white?

What I am trying to get at, is that if everyone started seeing each other as People and not Colors.  We wouldn't have the issues that we are having in America even today.  Some of the most racist people that I have met are claiming that their people were victoms.   Fine, but do I curse the British for the Irish Potato Famine?

There comes a time to let go of Racism and become better human beings.  Being stuck in the past mindset of racial prejudice is holding us back.  I am tired of hearing about any group of people in a race fashion.  It insults my intelligence.

Someday, it is my firm belief that we will all be the same color.  Not in my lifetime, but someday it is bound to happen.  If that is needed to bring about unitiy within our species, then I grieve.  I grieve for our children, your children and the suffering that ignorance brings about.

For those that choose to remain in the ignorant state of mind that judges by race, I hope you take a long hard look in the mirror after reading this.  I have seen racism in my time,  I am currently serving in Iraq near the Syrian Border.  But unlike 95% of the Marines here.  I converse with Iraqi's and treat them as complete equals.  Often they are surprised and they ask me, "Why are you so nice?".  To them I reply.

We are all the same, you and I.  There is no need for hatred.

Sincerely,

Bill

I haven't said much in regards to this subject matter, but I think you made some good points here.  I mostly wanted to welcome you to Mindsay, and encourage you to stand your ground and not let anyone get the best of you....there are hot topics on here now and then, but for the most part, Mindsay is a wonderful place to interact with many people all over the world.  I like it better than MySpace.

I also noticed you are a Marine and in Iraq.  So is my uncle.  He's a lifer, and was at Camp LeJeune, NC before his latest tour.  He's been over twice now and was also in Desert Storm.  Because of him, I have a lot of respect for Marines as well as the other men and women who are serving their country.  Thank you for what you do!

Thank you for your thoughts.  I left active duty in June of 2006, and then came over as a contractor to support fellow marines.  So while i'm still a marine, i'm over here supporting marines.

I find this issue within the services when dealing with Iraqi's.  There is bad blood, mainly due to the IED attacks.  I try to judge on a person to person basis rather then hate the entire group.

A friend of mine was over a year or two ago and she told me about the good things that have happened, ya know, the stuff you don't hear on the news....Maybe if we heard more of that, the war would be looked on a little less negatively.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
Welcome to Mindsay.  I applaud the work you are doing in Iraq, and I thank you.  I will keep you in my prayers at night, as all men and women who are in a violent part of the world need our prayers.  My youngest brother is in Falluja, he's a Marine as well....SEMPER FI, and it's the 3rd time he has been in Iraq.  So thank you very much for that.  It would likely have upset you to read in the past with all the political issues that get discussed here, that there are many who do not feel the way you do about the Iraqi (or MiddleEastern in general) people.  But I am glad to know that you are one who represents us, as we are all on this planet together, and I agree with your philosophy completely.

In regard to your blog and your views on racism, what it is, and why it is, I really found it a very interesting and non inflamatory blog.  You made some very astute observations, and you said them in a way that no one can really argue with.  I blogged about how "society" is responsible for allowing the whole "racism" issue to keep us divided, however being that it's so clearly something that people are not able to discuss as an issue that affects us all.....as in HUMANITY.  I agree fully that Imus said some very stupid things, but what saddens me more is that everyone has gotten past the point of understanding this is not just about Black and white, it's about Asians, Mexicans, Middle Easterners, and any group of people with similar genetics or skin color and heritage.

Again, I applaud you for both your words here, and your actions in Iraq.  People like you will change the world for us all someday, we could all make it happen quicker if we would just follow your lead.  Thank you.

Thank you for your thoughts.  I am glad you liked my blog, and I hope someday racism is something only mentioned as a footnote in history.

As for Iraq, well it's not a happy place.  But someday it will be better.  It will require patience, and new leadership on both ends.

Understanding, patience, and education are the foundations of a good society.  Once those are established, Iraq will be pleasent..(in the winter at least)

wow. finally someone just comes out and tells it like it is. thank you for this post. i had forgotten. you are right there are no colors or melanin just people. i agree there should be no history months--that is racism. i have no history. i have no views. i have no heritage. thank you for "treating" others as your "complete" equals. an d what is "victim" business? are you as sick of it as i am. it sounds like it. we are all the same. i voted for this post. it was brillant! you should apply for the nobel peace prize because informing people that we are all the same and there is no need for hatred is surely the answer that all have ignored or have not been able to figure out. again, thank you. and thank you for your service for in Iraq. treating as complete equals and all. you are so nice. this post was refreshing indeed.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
There are more cultures in this world then months in the year.  To attempt to give a month to any one group, is in my opinion wrong.  See below for what I believe is the answer to that.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
you mean like world civilization? oh wow. no one has thought of that? i wonder why the current education system has hihstory, social studies and non fiction pieces in theiir basals that entirely focus on one color. who on earth did that and why? cultures eh? trully brilliant! multicultrulism now rather than the monoculturalism and the assimilation that you were suggesting before, eh? ok. will do. no one ever thought of that before either. and  thanks again for your serice in Iraq. and for like you see said, treating them as complete equals and all. but, one thing, i was just thinking...oh no what am i doing thinking, surely that will make me a victim. ok, back to my new found self. let's see of i"ve got it right?  i have no history, i have no views, i have no heritage or color or race. again, i have no history, i have no views, i have no heritage or color or race. again,i have no history, i have no views, i have no heritage or color or race. again,i have no history, i have no views, i have no heritage or color or race. i am sure if i can just get that in my head i will be fixed. oh yeah, i won't forget:

I learned about the egyptions, the Romans, the Chinese, and then we have Black History Month.  To me, it's stupidity.  Instead of months exsisting for the purpose of seperating us, we should have a Human History Month.  To teach that we are all the same, and that there is no difference.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
I'm sorry, what you are saying is that your culture is more important then anybody elses? There are more cultures then months, so to have a needless bias against any one culture is wrong. If you don 't agree, well, too bad. But you are saying that we should make allowances for some, screw the rest.  I don't think that is fair.  As for the education system, you are wrong.  But if you have nothing positive to add her, i would be thankful if you didn't post here.  I never said you were a victim, I never claimed that you shouldn't have history.  I just believe that if people viewed each other as people and not race, then racism would fade into history.

I agree that humans should all live together as an entity, but I don't think ti should be to such a point where we eradicate culture altogether.
I don't think it's wrong to dedicate a month to celebrating a culture.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
Agreed, culture is good. But it isn't billed at culture but as an issue of race.  How about a Class on world culture as a required course.  That seems like a great idea.  "Cultures of the World."  I like how you see it as an issure of culture instead of race, but instead of one month....Why not an entire course, every year  (like history, math, english, science) of World Culture.  That would help move everyone in the right direction and promote REAL understanding.  Not just tollerance.

Re: Racism, Imus and Sharpton....And Race issues in America.
actually, our school requires a year of a class called "world culture."
it's world history, but with more emphasis on religions, etc.

well, i understand what you're getting at, but black history month doesn't offend me at all.
