That very subject has been debated here on Mindsay not that long ago... a conclusion by the "pro-lifer's" was that what they really are, are "anti-abortionists" since many of them support the death penalty and "The War", but not a woman's right to choose an abortion.
I tend to fall into the anti-war, anti-torture, anti-genocide, ant-abortion, pro-euthanasia, semi-pro-death penalty crowd, so, I'm about 2/3 pro-life.
Exactly RV. The word "life" includes all life so to say you're pro-life should mean you are for the right to life in every case. Since many of them aren't the term doesn't apply to them.
Anti-abortion means you are against abortion period. I think they prefer the term pro-life because it makes them feel more self-righteous. That whole "well if I'm anti-abortion then you're anti-life" argument is just another example faulty logic and sanctimonious rhetoric.

It's all rhetorical. We describe ourselves in the terms that make us feel best. For that matter, there's a reason that both sides go by a "pro-" name. Pro-life and pro-choice both sound good, and for that matter, if you didn't know the context, they don't sound mutually exclusive.
Pro-choice means you are for a choice and the availability of a choice.
Pro-life is supposed to mean you are for the right to life. However, some people who are pro-life tend to be for the death penalty and for the war. Life apparently doesn't include life post-gestation.
We DO know the context, therefore the terms are NOT mutually exclusive.
