went to see a couple of places on friday after work, one at 6PM and another at 6:45ish, both about two miles from work.  first was a renovated house that was really nice, hardwood first floor, granite kitchen countertops, carpeted upstairs 10'x10' room, about 1800sf in all, bed included, and with done up closet, too.  would've been with one couple (the girl, elsbeth (going by beth)'s parents owned the place, with her in grad school and him going back to school after some time off (actually the same one my dad went to for a while when he first came here)), and another girl, holly (who was quickly noted as being already taken).  second was a four-story townhouse, owned by this lady patty, who's got some things going on in her life (shtty economy, divorce, etc.) that've kind of made her rent the place out rather than sell it.  built in 2005 so pretty nice, fully furnished by her and a friend, roommates being three guys who kept the place pretty spotless.

big thing for both was, they were $750 + utils, which, after some discussion with the 'rents, was ultimately decided to be too much, even for the additional conveniences of being newer and closer to work.  just so happened that an old priest friend of my great uncle (also a priest) happened to stop by the restaurant towards the end of the week, and offered to ask around his parishioners to see whether any had a space available..found this little asian lady whose english name is anna, who has a townhouse about 5.5mi from work, so we went to check it out on tuesday.  first impressions weren't great; first floor was hardwood but the place smelled asian (yeah i know what it sounds like, but if you've ever been in an asian or indian house that isn't your own, you know exactly what i'm talking about), and the room i was going to have was in the basement, with no windows, no air vents, a closet that was little more than an hole in the wall, and two fluorescent light fixtures like in a kitchen.  at least it came with a wardrobe and dresser, and a basement exit with a microwave nearby..

after looking me up and down a bit, and noting my rather quiet/gentle demeanor (the way tend to get around strangers and those whose language i understand but am not overly fluent in), she said she would actually not mind offering me the upstairs guest bedroom, which was a bit smaller and had a bed, but no other furniture.  this was oddly much more to my liking, probably because it showed the age of the house much less (and the carpet was nice to have, too).  soo, next day being 9/9/09, here i am in my new abode, at least for the time being.  mother thinks i'll warm up to the place, i say we'll see, so i'm paying half a month at a time.  she made some pretty good homemade pho for me when i got here today, saying that it's important to eat after work before doing anything else.  also was introduced to the other housemate guy, who seems pretty shy (as i'd expected).

soo, here i am..at least i save like, an hour of travel time, hahah.  now i'll finally know what it's like to get that eight hours these certain friends of mine insist on getting each and every night..
