From the Rule of St. Benedict

If you desire true and eternal life, keep your tongue free from vicious talk and you lips from all deceit; turn away from evil and do good; let peace be your quest and aim. (Psalm 33:13)

(This is the way of inner spiritual freedom. It sounds so simple and easy and takes all your life to practice.) - Commentary by Philip Lawrence, OSB, Abbot of Christ in the Desert

My observation is that this Psalm found in the Rule of St. Benedict certainly does sound very easy but it is downright difficult to follow! I wish I could remember this when that "idiot" cuts me off on the highway or tailgates me! But following this is indeed the way to inner spiritual freedom. The all important word found in Brother Lawrence's commentary is PRACTICE and that is certainly what we need to remember. Practice, practice, practice, and remember as well that we are weak, we are foolish, and our perfection will only be met in God.

God bless us all,
Rod
