I wonder.

In a couple weeks or a month I wonder what the next national issue will be?  Today it's immigration across our Southern borders. Every other person has become a knee-jerk patriot and protector of everything American. They're all waving their flags sweating over the erosion America will suffer from this, todays' latest hyped up plague.

Over and over I hear about freedoms and liberties, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and I wonder. I wonder how much Americans would be willing to sacrifice to maintain these things. We are so completely insulated from the sufferings and sacrifices of the rest of the world how can we possible understand the human aspect of this issue.  Nowhere have I heard or read anyone addressing the sufferings and sacrifices that immigrants take on to taste the fruits of American soil. Nowhere have I heard or read anyone addressing the virtues of compassion and charity.

In a nation whose motto is "In God We Trust", and as a nation which calls itself a Christian nation we have shown once again what a hypocritcal nation we are. And this is just the latest round of divisiveness and knee-jerk reaction.

I wonder, what will the distraction be next week?

P.S. Meanwhile we are busy running the country into the ground by trying to jam our perfect system down the throats of the Iraqi's.

Re: Kneejerk's, what's Next?
Its quite a mess. I actually crossed the border illegally when I was 16 because my friends forgot to bring their green cards with them when we went to Tiajuana. I ended up running from the border patrol with people crossing illegally into this country. Many of them were small children.
I feel very fortunate to live in the United States. I don't feel I am entiteled to citizenship. I feel I am very lucky. I wouldn't feel right denying it to someone else who lives in poor conditions.
