...or democratic elections in the USA!
Maybe a tongue-in-cheek "Worst of Mindsay" Awards would be in order?

Sorry this is happening to you. The "smoke people" (ones with no substance) always target those with substance (like you).
They can't be real, they can't have substance, but like smoke they can can take any form. But if you look right at them, you can see right through them.
You are real, you have substance, I enjoy reading your blogs. The "smoke people" want what you have, but know that between their ears, they will never generate substance. All they can do is shape shift, all they have is the facade of substance.
So as I see it, mindsay is haunted and the ghosts are currently haunting your blog.
If you give them substance by acknowledging their existance, you give them strength.
You have enough substance to not get blown down by "smoke".

some things are just not worth the effort and should just be ignored..i'd rather concentrate on the blogs of value and just leave the negativity to the others who like to slander.
Would you rather do away with top blogs completely?
Yes, do away with it, it means nothing. Certainly anyone would agree that a blog getting 9 votes out of a purported 100,000+ users is meaningless.
honestly, I never ever remember that there's a 'vote' feature on here. There have been a few entries in my 2years here, that have moved me enough to do so, but generally I don't even think about top blog when I come here to blog. blogging serves a totally different function for me. I guess that's why I don't like to get involved with the political blogs or blogs with an agenda so much. and I'm too busy talking about me to be talking about other people. heh
On other sites, I've seen the option for giving props or individual ratings, but I wouldn't want those either.
I am slow to vote for top blog unless i am really impressed with what the person had to say, or usually in your case, to show.
And as for mindsay awards, if it were an above board thing with us nominating people worthy of different categories, it would be one thing, but if it is as you suggest, it will not end up being fair at all. So I am divided about it. I am not in blogging for and award recognition. However, if someone had to think I were worthy of a certain category, it would impress and please me, as everyone loves recognition in this thankless life.
And i know a lot of chamelions in this life as well; they try to make an impression on people according to what they want to hear, thus hearing about all the latest gossip and using the information as a spy would, selling it to the enemy.
this was a very thought provoking blog
I'm the director of this year's Mindsay Awards. I was directed to this post and wanted to take a moment to comment.
First, I agree with much of what you say here, onewalrus. Like you, I'm annoyed by bloggers who take on numerous identities and make up stories. I am trying hard to keep the awards this year from turning into a grade school student council election; that's not to say I'll be successful but I do think you should know that I too tire of deceit and dishonesty.
My goal with the Mindsay Awards really is to see that good blogs get showcased. Will people end up winning that probably don't deserve it? Yes. I imagine so. Any time you set something aside for distinction there is a level of subjectivity and I don't expect this production to be without some people feeling slighted. I am, however, trying to make the best out of a setup that is obviously not flawless. What is flawless on the Internet?
I have agreed with you on Top Blogs. Do I like it when I see one of my blogs show up there? Sure. Do I put a lot of stock in it? No.
I will be intently watching the Worst of Mindsay Awards. I think it's a great idea.
I'm trying (honest) to think of ways to make the Mindsay Awards less susceptible to manipulation by chameleon bloggers but still allow user participation. I hope in time some sort of system can be formulated that will do a better job at selecting bloggers for distinction. No human method of honoring accomplishments is an exact science and neither are the Mindsay Awards. I still hope that the Mindsay Awards, while not perfect, will serve to showcase at least a fragment of the great blogging and the blog diversity that exists every day at Mindsay.
